Publisher's summary

In the tradition of grand World War II sagas Beneath a Scarlet Sky and Of Windmills and War, After Dunkirk introduces the Littlefield family, fighting valiantly in the darkest days of the German occupation.

After Dunkirk heralds a stunning new voice in historical epics, a worthy heir to Wouk and Follett.

From the beaches of Dunkirk to the codebreakers of Bletchley Park, from Resistance bombings in the South of France to the machinations in the basements of MI6.

Winston Churchill called it Britain’s finest hour. The Royal Navy evacuated 330,000 soldiers from Dunkirk.

But more than 200,000 were left behind.

On the beaches, Jeremy Littlefield hides for his life. His path home will draw him through the iron will and the unbreakable heart of the French Resistance.

Only a few miles away, his brother, Lance, rallies fellow soldiers to start a trek that will take them across Europe, sabotaging the Germans in a mission tantamount to suicide.

Back in England, their sister, Claire, works at Bletchley Park, cracking the codes that could save the lives of her brothers and thousands of their comrades.

Finally, there is Paul, the cerebral eldest son, working for MI6, who always knows more than he is able to tell his beloved siblings.

After Dunkirk is a panoramic tale of war, love, courage, sacrifice...and betrayal. A family scattered across Europe, doing their duty for king and country while war rages.

Great Story.

Story is great, even if the dialogue is sometimes a bit stilted, and forced. The reader does a great job with some characters, but others? Why do some British officers have a deep baritone/bass voice, along with, what sounds to me, like an American accent? Still, the characters are well developed, and the story is well crafted and engaging. I look forward to the rest of the series!

I learned alot about what happened at the beginning of war after phony war was over

A bit slow first part of book because I didn’t know much about war ships and planes. But as it turned toward the people,e it got so much better. Glad I stayed on to book two now

Dunkirk in detail

Strong historical background with an even better story. I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

Great book. terrible narration.

This is a great book with good characters. With British , French and German characters they should have gotten a narrator who could do the accents.

Terrible narration

There is little to distinguish between characters, no French or British accents. Not sure I can listen to the next in the series if it has the same narrator.

An Exciting Work of Historical Fiction

I love the multiple points of view of these historical events from the Littlefield family members. I find the accounts of how WWII affected the the British Channel islands.

Good but short

I liked the story, it just felt very short. Perhaps the trilogy was meant to be one novel but they broke it up into 3 books.
