About this listen

They say reformed rakes make the best husbands. They were wrong.

Ten years ago, Tabby Russell married the man of her dreams. Or so she thought. The reformed rake had seemed vastly appealing when she was younger, but as life marched on and his old habits returned, Tabby realized too late that she should have chosen wiser when facing the marriage alter.

But there is no undoing the decisions of the past or avoiding the ensuing consequences. Even if Tabby wishes otherwise.

Overwhelmed by her husband's irresponsible lifestyle and suffocating debt, Tabby's life unravels around her until she is forced to relinquish her home and privileged life to become a lowly servant to a most irritating and demanding sailor.

Captain Graham Ashbrook loves the sea and the navy, but between one breath and the next, that life is ripped away from him when a French cannonball strikes his ship. Crippled and desperate, Graham finds himself trapped at his sister's estate as he struggles to heal his broken body and reclaim what he lost - at any cost.

But when his sister hires an intriguing and far too beguiling nurse to watch over him, Graham finds himself wondering if a life on land might not be such an awful thing. Even if the lady in question is determined to keep him at arm's length....

Set in Regency era England, A True Gentleman is a sweet romance about choice and accountability, duty and honor, and the joy that can be found even in the darkest of moments.

Though part of the Regency Love Series, it is a standalone story, and the entire series can be listened to in any order.

Just wonderful

I loved everything about this book. It was suspenseful, romantic, and heartfelt. I can’t wait to start the next book in the series.

Not your typical romance

At first I wondered how the couple would get together, but as the story progressed I stopped focusing on how and enjoyed the journey. It was bittersweet but very enjoyable.

This is a clean and wholesome early regency era love story. With ups and downs and a story that isn’t like most in this category. I highly recommend the series.

I would love to see Mia’s youngest brother shape up and find love. Will there be a 3rd book?

Another enjoyable story by M A Nicolas. The narration by Ms. Brolly was a great fit. Highly recommend.

I Will Never Get Back Those 10 Hours

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is mine:

I really want to like this book. I read the first book in the series and had so much hope for this story. However, it was probably one of the most depressing romances that I’ve read in a very long time. Every couple of chapters I would have to force myself to continue reading. Understand, I read romance books because I want to be uplifted. I like sighing at the end and feeling as if the world is made right again. That may seem cheesy, but when you live in a world where there’s already enough violence and chaos and other negative things that bring you down, you want to be able to get lost in a book.

However, when you toss the characters through a series of horrible events and hopeless circumstances, the romance is often lost. You don’t care if they get together in the end because you just want the torment to be over. POSSIBLE SPOILER: The shock and awe of physical abuse, emotional abuse or identity degradation is not necessary in a romance book. It is also not necessary for almost every man in the book to be portrayed as worthless or greatly flawed while every woman has to be the strong, independent sort.

If you are a fan of soap operas or get a kick out if watching other people’s misery on the evening news... If circumstances in which the characters are unable to stay happy for more than 45 minutes, or stories in which most man have few redeeming characteristic, then this is the book for you!

On a side note, I do think that the narrator did an amazing job.

Not My Favorite

I have only recently begun listening to this author. I enjoy the author’s ability to instill almost all aspects of a good, clean regency romance.
I say “almost” as I am particularly drawn to the romance novels that are clean, witty and have a bit more dependency upon Christian belief in them. However, thus far the books from this author do strongly emphasize the commitment of the two key characters to maintaining the physical honor of their marriage(s). The author also addresses the challenges of recognizing that fidelity in a marriage goes beyond the physical. These two things I truly appreciate about this author and I acknowledge that these things are very Christian in foundation.

So, if I like this author so much (and I think the narrator is fantastic), why the poor rating? Primarily because the situation that led to the whole misunderstanding wasn’t very believable and took way too long to surface. In the author’s other books, I have seen couples fall in love within days to weeks. For the two main characters to encounter each other for months and this “unintended” misunderstanding not to surface the whole time, is the reason I have given such a poor rating.
The values lived by the characters are very commendable but the “misunderstanding” was too far out there for me to fully embrace and enjoy this book.
…but, I do plan on listening to this author as, overall, their writing is excellent to me.
