About this listen

He’s hidden his unique skills since he could walk. Now they might be the only thing that can defeat an unspeakable monster.

1982. Nine-year-old Alan Barnes is afraid to touch anything. The merest brush with an object triggers an overwhelming flood of images and feelings he struggles to understand. And his extrasensory gift becomes a nightmare when he accidentally puts his hands on a bully and experiences the horror of raw evil.

Hunted by a centuries-old body-jumping entity seeking his special abilities, Alan fears he’s found himself in a life-and-death battle. But with little understanding of how to control his own mind and no inkling of the indescribable wickedness he faces, the boy may not survive an impossible fight…

Will Alan find a way to outwit a cunning dark spirit and live to tell the tale?

A Touch of Evil is a classic paranormal horror story. If you like scarily unavoidable conflicts, compelling characters, and fast-paced action, then you’ll love this dive into darkness.

Limited emotional range of voice

The story was good. It was difficult to keep the story’s description of the characters going when the narrator had a black man’s voice. I kept seeing them as black characters. The AI voice was not unpleasant to listen to, but I would not have wanted to listen to it any longer than I did as the emotional range and rise & fall variations were limited. It did not have the ability to express urgency, for example, in emergency situations. Nor was it able to do a Scottish brogue, but read the vernacular in a mild midwestern accent. At the present skill level the AI voice is better suited to short stories, without accents.
