About this listen

Five seconds.

A deafening blast. Pain. Silence.

That was all it took for an IED to end my life as I knew it. The man I was shattered in a hard wave of sound and debris that rained down on me like death itself. And six months later, after waking up to an inescapable hell, I found myself wishing that death had found me. Until her.

Miranda Jacobs swept into my life like a cool breeze on a smoldering day. With her smart mouth and her ridiculous jokes, she brought me back to life one minute at a time. Turned out time wasn't on our side.

Five seconds.

Screams. Twisted metal. Silence.

And I'd lost it all again - only this time, I had no one to blame but myself.

One of the things I love about Amie Knight is that she can encompass so many feelings and emotions in her books- she can write witty dialog, touching emotional situations, and passion too! A Steel Heart had all of this and more. I loved how quirky Miranda was- after meeting her in See Through Heart I knew she was a character I wanted to get to know better. (Please note that A Steel Heart can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone.) I enjoyed her profession so much- she's a romance novel editor! So perfect! Holden's story was captivating and had me gripped. Their meeting and interactions were so well-written. I was glad this was written in dual POV because both characters were so interesting and well-developed.

Both narrators were excellent. Although they are both new to me, I enjoyed their performances so much. My go-to speed for audiobooks is 1.25X and A Steel Heart was perfect at this speed- very conversational and easy to follow.

Excellent narration and fabulous story!

I could not stop listening to this book. I loved every chapter of it! It pulled at my heart strings and had me feeling all kinds of emotions throughout the story with Holden and Mae. I loved the lists that Mae would make and I loved everything about Holden. Amazing story about over coming the past and learning to move forward and trust someone with all your heart. I loved the narrators, you get lost in the story as it is being told.

A story that pulls at your heart strings!

I already liked Miranda from meeting her in See Through Heart. She's quirky and fun, and full of life.
But now we get to meet Holden, who's the opposite. And I love a good opposites attract story.

Holden is a complex character, full of flaws and a bit of a jerk too. I mean he has his reasons.
But Miranda is crushing, and she can see the good under the rough exterior.

This was a great read, kept me invested and entertained for the entire duration of the book.

The narration was very good, and all the voices were distinct and the characters' personalities were capture by the narrator.
I listened to this book over two days. I started it yesterday afternoon and finished 24hrs later. That out tell you something about how much I enjoyed this audible.

I loved the first book in this series, but this one was so much better. Miranda was one of my favorite characters from the first book and I was hoping the author would tell her story. Holden was a great character with a lot of issues. I loved him just as much as Miranda. And Will and Holden's little fights were so funny. You just couldn't help but laugh. The narrators kept the story interesting and did a great job of making it come to life. I really hope we get more in this series. I want to see Kelly's story next.

Better than the First Book

Amie Knight is Phenomenal ❣️I love this story of a strong, independent, giving woman who meets a damaged yet strong, resourceful, caring and resilient military man willing to work for a better life. This hits all the feels with me because my husband is retired military after serving 20 years. PTSD is real and affects family and friends as well as the person who has it. Lisa and Kale were great narrators and really brought emotion to the story. Fantastic read!
