Publisher's summary

Many biographies of people with schizophrenia seem to dwell primarily on the feeling of hopelessness, and they keep expectations for the sufferer's future low. With this autobiography, Mr. Jiang attempts to turn the tables on this litany of sorrow. He shows himself as a result of the miracles that modern medicine can produce. He went from being a basket case to a respected, technologically-savvy medical librarian working at a world-renowned research institution.

Interesting, confusing

The story is about a man, his fall into Mental illness and recovery. Just a story like others, but there is a uniqueness that made me want to keep listening.. i finished the audio in one day. .. I would recommend if interested in the daily life, and functioning of a person w this disease.
However, the reader kept repeating sentences and words throughout the entire book.. Don't know if intentional or not, but at times very distracting.
Almost stopped listening at one point, but instead just skipped to next chapter.... The repetition, seemed to improve in last few chapters.

Audio Book Listeners Beware

Would you try another book from William Jiang and/or Daniel Pierce?

No.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Unfortunately the editing of this book was deplorable. It was a struggle to get through Chapter 3 with all the restarts, throat clearing, belching, and content repeats of words and sentences.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I don't understand why the author felt it necessary to praise himself, over and over, for his accomplishments when they are self evident.

Unedited

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This is an unedited copy. I'm guessing it was uploaded by mistake, and am hoping there is an edited copy somewhere. It's hard to listen to when lines are repeated three and four times to get them right, but then never edited.

Poor Narration

I'm sorry, I have listened to so many audio books and this ones narrator was so difficult to stay tuned into the story. He made several mistakes and kept repeating lines over and over, in a the beginning it wasn't a problem but I had to stop listening eventually because I couldn't stay focused. I was disappointed so far the story was interesting ....

Don’t waste your credits-buy the hard copy

I would have loved to be able to listen to this and wish i had read the other reviews before using a credit on this. I’m sure the story is wonderful but the narrator makes it impossible to listen to for any length of time. It’s almost like they never edited this. He is constantly coughing and burping and the repetition makes it impossible to listen to. Very very disappointed.

Very good book, but unlistenable

The narrator is good, but this after the first chapter there seems to be no editing. Almost every sentence is repeated at least once, sometimes up to seven times. There are frequent throat clearings, some burping into the microphone. I stuck with it for a while because the story is engaging but I had to give up after a while.

Horrible reading

There were many times the reader reread what he had just read. He also clears his throat many times through the reading. It’s very hard to follow. He also doesn’t read how it is written.

First (second, and THIRD), unedited take.

The story seems to be wonderful, but the audiobook version of this is a rehearsal and therefore a disappointment. This is not the finished product. Daniel (the narrator) repeats lines sometimes four or five times with different inflections, snorts and clears his throat dozens of times, sings and sometimes actually stops recording and then comes back. I couldn't even make it more than halfway through because hearing the same line a half-dozen times killed the flow and the material. If I could get my money back I would.
