The price of love is loss. We all pay it eventually…
In every life…
Some moments are too painful to be endured. Some moments will break you if you let them.
And yet, I can’t afford to let anything break me, because we have one chance to win this war. One chance to create a better life for everyone across the four kingdoms.
Even as our enemies ally with each other, our own allies are forced to betray their kingdoms, their people…and themselves.
And even as Regner plans something so cruel, so wholly evil, he’s poised to douse the last remaining spark of hope in this world.
Unless we kill him first.

Okay. The last book ended with one HECK of a cliffhanger. One of the types of cliffhangers that is NOT cool. (I think I may still have some repressed anger about that, I'm thinking...) Anyway, moving forward......
So, we start off where the last book ended. We thought that the last book was going to have all of the action. Not true. THIS book is FILLED with things going on all over the kingdom. War has started and lines have been drawn. Our good guys - Prisca and Lorian - are still trying to secure allies and the bad guys are doing their parts to try to undermine everything. Lots of secret alliances come to the surface - some really unfortunate.
The super bad guy in this series has been Regner. He has been made out to almost be unstoppable and that has, at times, been frustrating. I will admit that for all of the difficulties that he has caused, a certain event was a little .....ummm, underwhelming? Just my opinion.
Many of the storylines were tied up. Solutions, sometimes unexpected solutions, are discovered and implemented. But make no mistake. This book was filled with drama and action from beginning to end. Some characters are lost, but it is war.....
I did enjoy this series. Quite a bit. I listened to the entire series on audio and felt that the narrating duo of Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige did a great job with the entire series. The world building was excellent, the magic system interesting and of course, we had a strong female MC with a very heroic, alpha male MMC in Lorian.
Seriously, what more could you want?
Great ending to the series!

I liked most of the main characters which is not very common for me, so, that was great. There was a lot of characters though, and at least twice throughout the book I was like: "Wait. Who is that?" But I'm sure that wouldn't be that much of an issue if I was reading this in a book myself.
But for the God almighty, just take some antacids!!! The characters' stomachs kept lurching at least once every chapter. At one point I joked with my friend that we were going to make a drinking game out of it. We didn't in the end, but that was mostly because we don't drink, not because of lack of opportunities to take a swig.
I'm still giving this five stars though.

Fabulous characters, exciting, fairly fast paced. One of the best endings I've read.
