Acerca de esta escucha

With cinematic scope and masterful pacing, Charles McCarry delivers a haunting parable of a man confronted with the ghosts of an entire generation's brutal history.

The grand tale begins in 1939 Berlin, where young Paul Christopher and his family are struggling against the rise of Nazi totalitarianism. The Christophers are known to be sympathetic to the persecuted Jews, and 16-year-old Paul has fallen in love with the daughter of a Jewish doctor. Their enemy is a sadistic S.S. officer named Stutzer, who will stop at nothing to destroy the young couple.

Twenty years later, top CIA agent Paul Christopher is the only living witness to Stutzer's crimes. As he edges toward the final confrontation with this mortal enemy, Christopher is forced to operate in the one theater he had thought he had mastered: his own past.

The narrator is a favorite of mine. His diction and accents are second to none. Plus, he’s very easy to listen to. The story is captivating with vivid characters and I listened for hours at a time. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

A fitting ending to the Paul Christopher story. I hate when I reach the end of a series.

This was a satisfying listen; I recommend to others who appreciate intrigue and a well told story. Stefan Rudnicki delivers an exceptional performance throughout- his astonishingly resonate voice is a character in and of itself.

Enjoyable unfolding

I liked it. Fell right into the story well written. Well told.
Definitely read. It’s the 10th book of the series.

Loved listening to Christopher’s early years.

McCarry’s style can be compared to Hemingway and Fitzgerald. The narrator is perhaps the best I’ve heard. Very much worth the listen.

I have only recently discovered Charles McCarry's novels. Now I have been reading his books one after another trying to make up for lost time. I have certainly enjoyed each one, but when I had only begun Christopher's Ghosts I immediately felt it was going to be special—and it was. What a terrific story!

A Most Excellent Story!

In my view there are only two redeeming things in this book.
One is the phrase " Exasperation makes the other man give up."
Secondly, I thought it was a very first person book. I wanted to know more about what happened to his parents and more about the girl as she died. Then I remembered that, that was how it was . Your loved ones were gone in the twinkleing of an eye and nothing else was heard of them. I, however, had to imagne this for myself with no help from the author.
But that is all. The rest was boring to me.

not so good
