The planet is isolated from the rest of the universe, unable to seek help as it's targeted by hostile aliens. Bienvenido's ruling authorities have slowly responded to this gradual infiltration, but they have no idea that a highly organized invasion is now under way, designed to wipe out all human life on the planet. All factions must work together to survive. Unfortunately, due to prejudice against enhanced Eliter humans and crippling technophobia, the parochial government won't collaborate.
Kysandra, known as the Warrior Angel, heads up the Eliter resistance. With their enhanced capabilities and technological know-how, they could avert disaster, but only if the authorities stop hunting them at every turn. Then, as both resistance and government are caught in a desperate race to save lives, the planet receives an unexpected visitor. As events escalate, petty power-plays, politics, and age-old prejudices may prove fatal. And as the more sophisticated hostiles can hijack a human body, humanity is undermined by spies within - wearing the faces of family and friends.

Seen through the eyes of a four main protagonists we delve into the civilization created by humans on a planet, ironically named Bienvenido (welcome in Spanish), how they use late 20th century technology in the hope of staving off being over run by the "Fallers" whose eggs fall out of the sky consume humans and extrude an exact copy of those consumed. Everything seems to be heading for an inevitable bad outcome until someone unexpectedly upsets the balance. Someone who has augmented capabilities built in the Commonwealth.
The story is told with the authors usual attention to detail, character development and relentless pacing.
A must read for fans of Peter F Hamilton's CommonWealrh novels.

Where does A Night Without Stars: A Novel of the Commonwealth rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book like many of Peter Hamilton's books give you a unique and interesting story. I particularly when an author continues a world view across multiple books. Peter does this with his books. You feel like you are in a connected universe over a long period of time. Night Without Stars is no exception.I have no idea where he gets his ideas from.

Two hundred and fifty years after the events in The Abyss Beyond Dreams, Bienvenido is facing a crisis. This was a wonderful story and I hated to see it end. Hamilton's writing always includes a bit of humor which I feel is a necessity in life as well as adding to a good story. Some of the characters have appeared in other Commonwealth books and Mr. Hamilton has done a wonderful job maintaining complex personalities through detailed and changing backdrops.
If you are reading this review and have not read any other of the Commonwealth books, I would recommend you start with Pandora's Star. Stick with it through the first couple hundred pages and you will find it worth the effort.
