About this listen

Enter the privileged world of English aristocrats, and experience the passion, intrigue, and romantic pleasures of the incomparable Malorys - a family of dashing rogues, rakehell adventurers, and spirited ladies. Now Jeremy, the son of gentleman pirate James Malory, falls in love....

When Danny, a young woman who grew up on the streets of London with no memory of her real family, is banished from her gang because she helped handsome rakehell Jeremy Malory steal back the jewels his friend lost in a card game, Danny demands that Jeremy give her a job. She is determined to become respectable in order to fulfill her dream of marrying and starting a family. Intrigued by her beauty and spunk, Jeremy hires Danny as his upstairs maid, although he wants her as his mistress.

Under the tutelage of Jeremy and his cousin Regina, Danny blossoms into a lady. Although she is drawn to Jeremy by passionate feelings she has never experienced before, she refuses to be anything more than a servant to him, because she knows he is not the marrying kind.

When Danny undergoes a Cinderella-like transformation and poses as Jeremy's new love in an attempt to help him avert a scandal, a few highly placed members of the town remark on how familiar Danny looks. Now tongues are wagging, raising the question of her true identity, which threatens not only Danny's chances of capturing Jeremy's heart but her very life.

The saga continues: listen to more romatic tales of the Malory family.©2004 Johanna Lindsey (P)2004 Brilliance Audio, Inc.

Critic reviews

"A terrific tale about a wickedly seductive hero and a wonderfully unconventional heroine....this fairy-tale-like love story [has] a dash of danger in a successful bid to please readers who like witty and sinfully sensual Regency romances." ( Booklist0
"Laural Merlington's saucy rendition of Danny's Cockney accent meshes cleverly with her portrayal of Jeremy's deep, sensual voice. Her expert pacing transforms this novel into an all-encompassing listening experience." ( AudioFile)

Great story

Listen, guys, this is dated. If an author tried to write a story like this today, some of the behaviors in this story would be deemed totally inappropriate and unacceptable.
That being said, Johanna Lindsey needs to be read by all romance lovers so we can appreciate one of the greats! Just make sure to start at the beginning so you don’t miss a thing!

Out of all I’ve heard this is my favorite reading!

With the exception of the way the reader says one of the characters names, this by far my favorite reading of a Johanna Lindsey novel. The story was awesome and the reading brought it to life. I really enjoyed it.

can't believe...

Loved the book, as I have all of the Mallory/Anderson books. However, I have 1 nitpick... the reader kept mispronouncing Regina. The way she said it rhymed with vagina. Other than that, it was quite enjoyable.

... a Beautiful Thief

I've listened to this story twice and read the paperback years ago, and each time it's like rediscovering an old friend. The characters breathe, and have life. As with all books in this series you get to see old characters and see how their stories have progressed. A truly joyful read be it the first time or the tenth.

Very good...

From beginning to the end. I like the voices, except the main male antagonist. He was to be this great looking man but the voice to me was off. Other that that. I wnjoyed it.

The names

Loved the story but seriously we have listened to many Mallory novels by now. Everyone should pronounce the names the same. She didn’t pronounce Regina correctly, It really grins on the nerves for her to mispronounce the names the entire story
