About this listen

Caring for someone with dementia means devotedly and patiently doing a hundred little things each day. Few care providers are trained to meet the challenges of dementia, however - and that is where A Loving Approach to Dementia Care can help. The book offers practical, compassionate advice on overcoming caregiving obstacles and maintaining meaningful relationships with loved ones who have dementia and memory loss.

Laura Wayman's program of care emphasizes communication, affirmative response, and empowerment - transforming the caregiving process from a burden into a fulfilling journey. Her true stories of caregiving illustrate the principles of this loving approach, giving listeners essential tools for connecting with people who have dementia. A practitioner whose strategies have seen great success in thousands of individual homes and facilities across the country, Wayman shows how understanding the limits and possibilities of the person who has dementia can make all the difference in the world.

In this thoroughly revised edition, Wayman adds fresh caregiving insights, two completely new chapters that explore the dangers of denial by both caregivers and people with memory loss, and the "Dementia-Aware Guide to Caregiving" - a quick reference tool for advice on how to respond to specific difficult behaviors.

Very explanatory

My mother and my MIL are both dealing with dementia. Two very different cases. My family is on the same care giving track with my mother. With my MIL her daughter has been the challenge. While the family sees the needed care my SIL is as challenging as my MIL.
This being said k is very helpful. Now if only my SIL will open up to some guidance and learning on how to treat dementia people.
Listening to the book on audible allowed me to multi task. I will also be able to go back to important notes. I highly recommend this book.

A very helpful guide for caregivers and families.

I am a caregiver, and this book gave me so much insight and tools to do my job. So much that I am doing a presentation for the team in the next meeting. Very easy to listen and understand. I 100% recommend.

Sharing is caring!

I am so grateful for the sharing that Laura provided in this book. It is an example of caring beyond self and helping so many caregivers. I have shared this book already with my own mom and many family members so that we can prepare and help those in our own care. The examples provided are helpful too and although every situation is different, she has given so many ideas through others experiences that can be useful to not only care for someone with dementia but also encourage someone who is which creates a level of empathy that is lacking in many families today due to a lack of education and willingness to learn from others. Thank you for sharing your deep care for people and I hope I can provide this same care to those around me!

I am an OT and love this book!

I absolutely love it!!!!!

The format, each chapter is a peek into someone who’s loved one living with Dementia.

Each chapter you hear of a loved one, caregiver and others feelings and emotions.

Each chapter you get techniques and strategies.

Each chapter you hear and learning more loving approaches from Laura.

Each chapter you learn about successful strategies!

I am nearly done and don’t want stories to end.

I will absolutely recommend this book to fellow OT, to families, to Memory Care staff, anyone that needs help with providing love and care to someone living with Dementia.
