About this listen

Twelve years ago Matthew "the Rocket" Rising had it all. Married to his high school sweetheart and one of the winningest quarterbacks in the history of college football, he was the number one NFL draft pick. But on the night of the draft, he plummeted from the pinnacle of esteem. Falsely accused of a heinous crime with irrefutable evidence, it seemed in an instant all was lost—his reputation, his career, his freedom, and most devastatingly, the love of his life.

Having served his sentence and never played a down of professional football, Matthew leaves prison with one goal—to find his wife, Audrey, whom no one has seen since the trial. He returns to an unwelcoming reception from his Gardi, Georgia, hometown to learn that Audrey has taken shelter from the media with the nuns at a Catholic school. There she has discovered a young man with the talent to achieve the football career Matthew should have had. All he needs is the right coach. Although helping the boy means Matthew violates the conditions of his release and—if discovered—reincarceration for life, he'll take the chance with hope of winning back Audrey's love.

Critic reviews

"A beautiful story of love, redemption, and football. A winning combination."—Library Journal

"Could easily be ripped from today's headlines. A moving story of lost dreams, unending love, truth seeking and in the end, inspiring redemption. This one is not to be missed!"—Michael Morris, author of Man in the Blue Moon and A Place Called Wiregrass

1 of His Best!

This was wonderful! I'm not even a football fan and I plan to listen to it again. I'm hoping my husband will give it a shot, as well. I now have 4 favorite Charles Martin books: Long Way Gone, When Crickets Cry, Wrapped in Rain, and A Life Intercepted. Thank you Charles Martin for sharing your God given talent.

Wonderful story!

Charles Martin has done it again. He always captures the essence of grace and the love of God. In "A Life Intercepted" he captured the consequences of blame and unforgiveness, the desperate need to be forgiven, as well as the amazing blessing of true forgiveness for all in the story. Such a poignant portrayal pf each and every character. I also loved that he shared his own personal experience in grace and forgiveness to his son and his audience. CO'S writing is truly gifted. His stories never dusappoint.

Not my fave

I usually love Charles Martin’s books, but this one angered me and was disappointing. I could NOT understand how Audrey could do love and trust, then believe the “evidence.” And the she said he was worth nothing, she did not want Matt bear her, but entrusted this youngster to him…..
But because the other eight I’ve read have been special, I’m moving to the next.

You just can't go wrong with Charles Martin.

I have a variety of books and Authors that I love to listen to over and over again. Charles Martin is one at the top of the list. All his books are base on a beautiful philosophy. Sometimes, bad things happen to good people, but you don't have to be brought down because of it. All of his main characters see the beauty of rising above and living to higher level. You gotta love a guy who gets knocked down but gets back up so gracefully that he brings everyone else up with him. I have to admit, I'll like this book a lot more the second time now that I know it has a great ending.

Charles Martin is a wonderful story teller

Love the story, just wish he would leave out the adult parts (mentioning nudity, ect.) when you have children, you don't want them hearing those things, nor do I want too! Keep it clean please.

better than expected

The performance was very good. I liked the overall theme of the book, and would recommend it. And, yes, there so much football talk! I wanted to give up after a few chapters of football plays but I am glad I stuck with it.

Mostly loved it...

I think I have read/listened to about seven Martin books and this rated near the top
But loose ends like the sweet stray he adopts and then disappears ... and some things in the story line repeated more than once ... irritating. Other than little things like that, I LOVED IT!
