About this listen
The eighth installment of the popular Lesson series—featuring therapist, professor, and reluctant sleuth David Unger.
David reluctantly joins members of his high school bridge club at their 20th class reunion in the hope of solving a personal mystery from his own past. But reuniting soon delivers a few unwelcome truths, and fear sets in when a classmate is found dead.
As old rivalries and resentments flare, the gathering on the Queen Mary in Long Beach for a weekend of memory-making brings forth more murder. David enjoys a high school flashback with an old flame but is left with more questions than answers.
The posse is on hand to help, but death won’t leave the party, and while David floats a few theories, he struggles to get past his own bias.
Playing his cards close to his chest, he seeks to bridge the gap between truth and lies.
Can he trick the killer into revealing their hand before they strike again?

Story
Growing up in a Philadelphia suburb in the 1970s was an easy life. Well, easy as long as you didn't have dyslexia or ADD, or were a Jew. And once you added gay into the mix, life became more difficult. So Todd Glass decided to hide the gay part, no matter how comic, tragic, or comically tragic the results. Now, Todd has written an open, honest, and hilarious memoir in an effort to help everyone - young and old, gay and straight - breathe a little more freely.

Story
Life - if you've ever thought you might be doing it wrong, you're not alone. Objects in the Mirror: Thoughts on a Perfect Life from an Imperfect Person is a collection of essays that explores what it means to be alive. Like Polaroids framing the years of a troubadour and family man afflicted with an excess of self-awareness, these are stories without any clear good guys or bad guys. Instead, in each of these vignettes you will find dysfunctional humans trying to do their best and bouncing off each other in the process.

From the creator of the beloved and universally acclaimed television series BoJack Horseman, a fabulously off-beat collection of short stories about love - the best and worst thing in the universe. Equally at home with the surreal and the painfully relatable (and both at once), Bob-Waksberg delivers a killer combination of humor, romance, whimsy, cultural commentary, and crushing emotional vulnerability.

As an only child raised in a town of less than 8,000 people and without a Starbucks in sight, Meghan Rienks has always been pretty good at entertaining herself. Then one day — cue the dramatic voiceover — her life changed forever. In 2010, Meghan was diagnosed with mononucleosis. Mono is basically just a really bad case of the flu, right? Wrong. To a party-crazed 16-year-old, mono is social suicide. More than anything, it’s just plain boring.

David Unger’s stream of consciousness in the main character helps the reader not only understand the protagonist but we get a look inside the writer and ourselves. The book is sexy and humble, tense and funny. David’s journey to the last two chapters points out how being jaded and having a lack of empathy can be deadly. The best part of the ending was how David Unger helped us understand the power of restorative justice and women’s issues.

I Got You Babe 🎶
I love how you can always count on Dr. Unger’s books to provide you with an entertaining escape from the day’s trials and tribulations. He scores again with this one. A delightful whodunnit filled with wit, humor, and psychological insight. And, what fun to be reminded of the music of the times including Sonny & Cher and Herman’s Hermits. And, as always, Jake does a fantastic job of capturing the characters’ essences in his telling of the tale. Enjoy!
