Publisher's summary

In 1856-57 Frederick Law Olmsted took a saddle trip through Texas to see the area and report on its lands and peoples. His description of the Lone Star State is one of the most outstanding books about the American West ever published. Based on firsthand observation and backed by research, Olmsted's text captures the customs and cultures of the Texans in an engaging way.

The narrator is so annoying

The actual book is quite interesting from a historical perspective. As a Texan, it was interesting to hear the author’s perspective as he travelled through Texas. I give the story 5 stars. The narrator is TERRIBLE. At first, I thought it was computer generated narration. However, I discovered it was not when the narrator tried to reenact certain quotes by attempting to sound like he thought the speaker might sound. His fake country accent was super cringy. His normal speaking was just plain “off” and lacks the normal cadence and flow one would expect from a professional reader.

Difficult to listen to

I enjoyed the story. However, the narrator was terrible. Sounded like a monotone computer generated voice which resulted in a very unsatisfactory Audible experience.

Worst narrator ever

The title is excellent but Troy Davis' narration is almost impossible to listen to. I had to double check to make sure it was a real narrator and not some computer generated voice. He must work for free, and even then, he comes up short.

Unlistenable

This audiobook sounds like it is read by 1995 text reader. It is terrible. Steven Hawking would have read it better. This is honestly shocking, compared to other Audible titles. Please, please! Get Blackstone Audio or someone legitimate to read this book. This is not an audiobook.
