Fantastic Book!

As far as horse books go this is now one if my favourites. Not your typical "how-to", the story captures your heart and pulls you in. The teachings contained within the story will stick with me forever. A huge thank you to Mark Rashid for sharing with us.

Stories of very bad, good and funny horse training

The people who read these stories must at one point think to themselves that the people who *should* be reading these stories are the ones that won't. Some of the training methods that some trainers use on horses are horrific.

I can only hope that by reading the stories of very bad training methods that I will catch myself if I ever lose patience, or consider using any type of bad "training" method that Mark Rashid witnessed and tells of in some of his stories.

There's a saying that every choice creates a future, so having learned a few things from the stories in this book, I hope that I will make better choices when with my horses.

The extra attention in this book telling more about "the old man" Walter Pruitt (sp?) was a bonus.

Can't get much better

My 12 year old step-son and I listen to this on our way out to our Wyoming ranch each night. We're captivated by the stories of a young boy who works so hard and and learns so many things, the hard way.
As an animal behaviorist, I enjoy that it is full of great insight on horse behavior. That doesn't mean I agree with every interpretation or method but this is a story of a boy learning to do things a kinder and better way than we generally see, a boy who grew up to be a great compassionate horse trainer.
Eventually our ranch (120 Acre Wood) will be a place for both animals and people to learn and overcome trauma and I will pass this audio on for others to experience. My son is learning to be so brave around the horses and this gives him encouragement (and probably a few bad ideas too).

A wonderful book

Mark Rashid is a wonderful storyteller, using stories to get important horse points across. It is moving to think that Walter Pruitt's gift of understanding and working horses has been passed down to us from Mark (and credit also goes to Tom, the Native American that taught this to Walter when he was a child, which may have been mentioned in Mark's previous book instead of this one).

Awesome book

I took some of the knowledge in this book and used it just today. Patience and putting my horse away after just a few minutes for a job well done! Thank you Mark, you have touched my heart with your story and your love for these amazing animals.

inspiring and humbling

I picked up this book because I wanted to learn more about how to handle horses as I get back into the scene in my late life. I've learned a lot that can be applicable not only to horses but to people. the book is well narrated. I couldn't put it down or rather I could not take off my headset. if you are horse lover, or even remotely think you might enjoy stories about horses, or if your parents with a difficult child, read this book.

Touched my soul

This is a book I read as a child. As an adult, I’ve found it to touch my soul so much deeper. It brought me laughter and tears and the hair on my arms would stand from time to time. I felt like I was reliving these stories with Mark. I try to gift this book to as many horse hungry people I know.
