Publisher's summary

Brinkley Springs is a quiet little town. Some say the town is dying. They don't know how right they are. Five mysterious figures are about to pay a little visit to Brinkley Springs. They have existed for centuries, emerging from the shadows only to destroy, to kill. To feed. They bring with them terror and carnage, and leave death and blood in their wake. As the night wears on, Brinkley Springs will be quiet no longer. Screams will break the silence. But when the sun rises again, will there be anyone left to hear?

I hope Brinkley Springs gets some new dogs soon

The Levi Stoltzfus series are my first Brian Keene books, and I have enjoyed them enough that I will be looking into more of Keene's work. He does a good job of writing likeable and interesting characters with relatable flaws. While these horror books haven't exactly scared me, I have found them to be very fun reads.

Great Creepy Story

The setup for this story was great. I really enjoyed being introduced to all the small town folks. Sadly, a lot of them don't make it past the middle of the book. The setting definitely helped make you feel isolated as the mysterious figures come to town. The final showdown didn't seem to me to have the same level of excitement as the buildup, but it was still a great paranormal/occult story. This is the first book in the Levi Stoltzfus collection I have listened to and while this is the third book, I didn't feel like I was missing anything as you are introduced to Levi as if you didn't know him.

I liked the characters, although I did have a little bit of a hard time keeping them all straight as we are introduced to a lot who then promptly die. Levi is a great main protagonist and I found him to be my favorite character of the bunch. The antagonists are by far my favorite part of the story. Shape shifting crows is truly something of nightmares as crows by themselves are creepy, invulnerable shape shifting ones have to occupy a ring of Dante's Inferno. They creeped me out right down to the clothes they wore once inhuman and the way the spoke. The dialogue from them is worth the story alone.

Chet Williamson did a great job with the narration. I really liked his character voices and the accent he used for Levi as well as the gravely voice for the crows. Williamson really put in a lot of energy to the narration and made for a great creepy listen.

The crows are coming to Brinkley Springs!

The crows are coming to Brinkley Springs, West Virginia

With them, they will bring much death and mayhem.

Thankfully, an excommunicated Amish magnus is on the scene with his “Long Lost Friend”.

Let the fight for the town’s souls begin.

I like Keene’s work. His style flows easy and the action he pens in this one gathers some serious speed as the story progresses.

Chet Williamson’s narration takes a minute to warm up to, but after listening to it for a while I don’t know how it could have been narrated by anyone else. His deep brooding cadence added a lot to the ambiance of the story. Well done all around.

Keene and Williamson are a great pair.

I always enjoy Keene’s stories, especially the Levi Stolzfus adventures. Williamson always brings every character to life with ease regardless of how big or small a part they play in the story.

Funnest Author Out There For Horror Buffs

I read a lot of Brian Keane and he is a lot of fun, but in addition his books are always incredibly well researched and his characters are always believable and developed. He doesn't write a B-Movie in print form although the violence and gore depicted can be intense...which may be reminiscent of a B-Movie...but that's the only reason I watch them anyway :-).

Also? This performer can nail his American accents namely Midwestern, Appalachian and Pennsylvania Dutch. Well done Sir.
