Publisher's summary

Imagine being able to fly. Walk through walls. Shape-shift. Breathe underwater. Conjure loved ones - or total strangers - out of thin air. Imagine experiencing your nighttime dreams with the same awareness you possess right now - fully functioning memory, imagination, and self-awareness. Imagine being able to use this power to be more creative, solve problems, and discover a deep sense of well-being.

This is lucid dreaming - the ability to know you are dreaming while you are in a dream, and then consciously explore and change the elements of the dream. A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming shows exactly how to do it. Written by three avid, experienced lucid dreamers, this manual for the dream world takes the reader from step one - learning how to reconnect with his or her dreams - through the myriad possibilities of what can happen once the dreamer is lucid and an accomplished "oneironaut" (a word that comes from the Greek oneira, meaning dreams, and nautis, meaning sailor).

Listeners will learn about the powerful REM sleep stage - a window into lucid dreams. Improve dream recall by keeping a journal. The importance of reality checks, such as "The Finger" - during the day, try to pass your finger through your palm; then, when you actually do it successfully, you'll know that you're dreaming. And once you become lucid, how to make the most of it. Every time you dream, you are washing up on the shores of your own inner landscape. Learn to explore a strange and thrilling world with A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming.

great advice found within

personal experience: I became lucid by accident and spent the night flying around with a couple Dragon Ball Z characters. it was absolutely intense and everyone thought I was crazy when I told them about it. So naturally I took their advice and told myself that it was just a vivid dream, nothing more. then about a week ago I heard on NPR that lucid dreaming was real. The next night I was casting spells at Hogwarts with an overly gay Dumbledoor. It was just as badass as my first lucid dream.

however, I'm a natural born skeptic:
The text suggests Astral projection and telethapy are possible without providing examples or evidence. I'd love to believe otherwise, but if it were real, someone would have found it by now and be using the skill for practical purposes. There'd be an industry built around the ability, don't you think? I'll try it out in my own dreams, but I don't have any real expectations of success.
if someone wants to telepathicly communicate w/ me, I'd be more than thrilled to answer the call.

Play this by the left ear in your sleep

I've noticed that I have lucid dreams sometimes allowing by more sound access to the left ear than the right, if the sound is talking about lucid dreaming. I do not know why.

Inspirational

Concise, well rounded and most importantly, inspirational. For a process shrouded in mystery they offered ideas and insights to explore and fire the imagination. I’m in!

Worth a listen

I'm glad I finally finished this one after sitting on it for a while. I've read a few lucid dreaming books, but this one still had good information plus a goofy sense of humor here and there. I also liked the suggestions for what you can do once you're lucid. I've had some trouble setting intentions, but this book gave me some good ideas to make things more fun. Sweet dreams!

Great Intro to Lucid Dreaming

This book is full of useful tips that can help you become lucid in your dreams. I listened to this books stretched out over a summer and had about 3 lucid dreams by following its advice. It explains why dreams are important, and how to realize profound insights from your dreams. And I was kept engaged by the humorous and entertaining writing style.
