About this listen
Kim could tell at a glance Angel wasn't the average attractive yet poorly disguised extraterrestrial scout sent to assess Earth's defenses before the inevitable alien invasion. Angel's memory loss cover story? Lame. Robbing a passing ruffian of his shirt to cover her naked body? NOT a good way to avoid attracting attention! As a science fiction geek, Kim felt herself uniquely qualified to watch Angel and thwart her dark mission...once the alien got around to it.
But Angel had her own questions. She couldn't help but wonder, why would Kim invite a stranger home? Surely, it could only be for romance! Kim didn't dare correct her, not without giving herself away, and so both found themselves in an escalating romantic relationship neither actually wanted.
Is it possible lies and deception could lead to true love? Could projected feelings designed to fool the other become genuine?
A Date with Angel is a romantic escalation comedy full of misinterpretations, grand theories, and devious, romantic traps...and a suspected alien woman doing her best to meet a sci-fi paranoiac's expectations.

When Cassie Klein goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school’s Family Weekend, she isn’t looking for a hookup—it just happens. Buying a drink for a stranger turns into what should be an uncomplicated, amazing one-night stand. But then the next morning rolls around and her friend drags her along to meet her mom—the hot, older woman Cassie slept with. What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Kim & Angel
Would you listen to A Date with Angel: And Other Things That Weren't Supposed to Happen again? Why?
Yes, prefer audible books
Who was your favorite character and why?
Kim who wants to keep her private life private
Have you listened to any of Kendall Taylor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No have not listened to any of Kendall Taylor's other performances.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Kim & Angel's relationship
Any additional comments?
As the book begins, Kim who wants to keep her private life private comes across as an introvert making sure she does not allow anyone to get close to her. From the beginning Kim is reluctant to engage with Angel but when Kim does finally allow Angel into her life Kim quickly realizes that Angel may be an alien which might explain why some of the things Angel does just do not seem normal to Kim. This is why Kim has difficulty accepting and agreeing to do things with Angel even though Kim has no intentions of doing. At times, her actions seem to be short sighted and stupid for the most part. However, to me there is an underlying story going on in this book...a story of a woman with many trust issues, a deep shyness, who, and has closed off any kind of personal relationship which might allow her to get hurt. The book holds your interest by trying to understand how Kim justifies the things that she feels and does. The fact that each step forward in Kim & Angel's relationship is because of some devious and evil master plan that Angel has concocted to trick Kim to help her complete her mission is what keeps the story moving forward. And the fact that Angel agrees with it, makes the two a matched pair. By the end of the book, Kim now has someone in her life who is more important to her than all of her insecurities. The is the underlying story.

So much new
Unlike some... I can see how a geeky introvert may strugle when learning uncomfortable truths about herself... And may find motivation to gain this knowledge when presented by a sexy alien of the unexpected gender...in this scenario. I like the story ... It is cute. And it seems to attqtch well to modern.... My friends only talk to me over the net... Culture.

Funny and unexpectedly sweet!
Any additional comments?
This is billed as a romantic comedy, and I must say it delivers. Kim is a paranoid introvert, zealous in her goal to keep her private life private, and making sure she allows no one close to her. As the book opens, Kim encounters a naked woman in a convenience store parking lot. The woman is putting on a shirt she obviously took from the unconscious man lying on the ground. The two women look at each other, and finally Kim engages her in conversation. That conversation leads to all the events that occur in the book. Because that conversation is weird. And it rings all sorts of alarm bells in Kim's mind. This woman is an alien scout! And Kim might be the only thing standing between Earth and an alien invasion. Which, let's face it, is ridiculous.
The comedy is that this gamer girl geek believes Angel, as she declares her name to be, is an alien. There are several things that back this theory up, from the obvious lies Angel tells about herself - her cover story, to things that Angel does that just don't add up to normal. Kim's struggles to maintain her own cover lead her to accept and agree to things with Angel that she had no intention of doing. This leads to numerous situations that were funny enough to make me laugh out loud. Which brings me to the narrator. Kendall Taylor brings a distinct personality to each character, the best of which is her deadpan delivery of Angel's lines. Sometimes just hearing Angel's responses in that voice cracked me up.
The best thing about this book, and this is what pushed it up to a 5 star for me, is that while this is a romantic comedy, there's a secondary story going on here that just struck me as sweet, intense, and amazing. This is the story of a woman with horrible interpersonal issues, trust issues, overwhelming shyness, completely introverted, and closed off to any sort of personal relationship where she can get hurt. It takes a completely out of this world reason for Kim to invite someone into her space, and at first, Kim grudgingly accepts the things that occur because she has to keep an eye on this alien who might mean the end of our world. And it is extremely interesting to hear her try to justify the things that she feels and does. The fact that every step forward in their relationship, every step closer together is because of some devious and evil master plan that Angel has concocted to trick Kim into helping her complete her mission. And the way that Angel not only goes along with it, but buys in to it as well, absolutely makes them perfect for each other. Slowly Kim opens up her life, to Angel and to others she comes in contact with, very reluctantly, and very grudgingly. And by the end of the book, Kim has become someone who has at least one person in her life who is more important to her than all of her insecurities. That is the secondary story, and it is glorious.
I'm not sure if this would read as funny as it was listening to it, but I will definitely find out at some point in time.

fantastically funny
didn't like the narrator at first as the free sample of the written word contained one of the funniest happenings ever! it was so funny, i laughed until i cried, and knew right then that if the rest of the book was this funny, complicatedly funny, that this book was going to be a winner, which it is!
the narrator/reader, however, didn't read the shower scene so as to make the situation come alive as one listened. this almost turned me off the audible rendition altogether, but i decided to give her rendition of the book a fair trial, so i listened to the whole book, and i must admit it, she got better -- much better which made listening to the book much more enjoyable.
great writing! highly recommending this book and looking forward to a sequel!

More comedy than romance.
Kim's zaniness makes this book pretty funny. Add to this Angel's preference for going with the flow rather than actually asking questions, and you get quite the comedic duo. Suspend any expectations of common sense or traditional romance and this book can be quite enjoyable.

My new favorite book for lightening my mood.
Every aspect of this story blew my mind. The romance was such a wonderfully unique space cyborg unicorn. I loved the characters. Angel played into the situation with the perfect amount of bewilderment and enthusiasm.
I absolutely need Kim in my life. She is awesomely self involved and her mental tangents made it impossible not to smile and laugh. I was in awe at the conclusions she lept to and the stubborn way she clung to her conclusions in the face of inconvenient facts.
The narrator was the perfect choice. she brought out the stubborn wit of Kim and the bewildered humor of Angel. I recommend to everyone even people uncomfortable with lesfic because noone can deny the awesome.

Horny 15-yr-old Boys Will Love It
About 85% of this book is merely one "girl's" struggle coming to terms with her sexuality (lesbian). While some of it rings true, most of it is highly redundant and we go through the same cycle over and over and over and over until one is begging for an end. She back-tracks herself all over the place, and while that does happen, people rarely do so that often, that fast, and in such predictable fashion.
The rest is a half-hearted attempt at science fiction which more often than not, seems made up on the spot and contradicts itself with regularity.
All that being said, the author does manage to interject some humor, so it's not completely un-entertaining. If you have nothing else to do, or if you're immune to cyclic frustration, it might be okay. Or if you have the memory of a goldfish!
