Acerca de esta escucha

When Maud Marsh flings herself into George Bevan's cab in Piccadilly, he starts believing in damsels in distress. George traces his mysterious traveling companion to Belpher Castle, home of Lord Marshmoreton, where things become severely muddled. Maud's aunt, Lady Caroline Byng, wants Maud to marry Reggie, her stepson. Maud, meanwhile, is known to be in love with an unknown American she met in Wales. So when George turns up speaking American, a nasty case of mistaken identity breaks out. In fact, the scene is set for the perfect Wodehouse comedy of errors.

The narrator was excellent.

I was not previously acquainted with this stand alone novel by P.G. Wodehouse and it's been a wonderful pleasure to discover it. It's a comedy of errors with some hilarious moments, and the writing is delightful.

A very good listen

Another witty Wodehouse romance. Lots of oddball characters and silliness. Delightful as only Wodehouse manages.

Charming

I love the way Mr. Cecil brings all of P. G. Wodehouse’s character to life. I would listen to him read the phone book. Mr. Wodehouse is hysterical even in the 21st century. A great listen!!

Listening to Jonathan Cecil reading Wodehouse is an escape from the mundane and a trip into a wonderful world of confusion and misunderstanding that resolve themselves as the should.

Wodehouse at his best with overbearing aunts well mixed in. As always a delight to read!

Jonathan Cecil is made to read Wodehouse.

This was my first introduction to Wodehouse and I was hopeful, knowing the fabulous reputation, yet doubtful, because I don’t care for slapstick comedy. Lucky me, the comedy mostly didn’t make me uncomfortable, and I frequently found myself laughing out loud as the story leisurely unfolded one crazy scenario after another.

The omniscient POV was fun, and many characters escaped caricature and became people. (Evidence of PGW’s talent IMO, as caricature would have sufficed, though it might not have been as enjoyable.)

The narrator is terrific, deftly making character voices distinct, and did a good job with George’s American accent (though I didn’t think he did quite so well with Billie…) This is a peeve for me as an American who loves British stories-I hate floating blissfully along only to be brought up short by an “American” accent that sounds like no human I’ve ever heard speak in my life. Anyway! Very pleased with narrator!

Highly recommend if you want a funny, charming, comedy of errors with a big heart! Especially love this is part of the plus catalog (for a while, anyway?).

Charming!

Brits making jest about the haughtiness of fellow (posh) Brits is always a delight, at least as portrayed by Wodehouse. .

Truly a joy to listen to the distinct voices of the narrator as he deftly jumps among multiple characters in quick succession

z This was a thoroughly enjoyable romp full of hilariously clever turns of phrase and well- read, (if phlgmatically)by the performer. A pleasant distraction which will have you laughing out loud.

A Romp
