Publisher's summary

Welcome to Wychwood-on-Lea...a not-too-quaint village where frosty evenings, welcoming fires, and second chances will make this a Christmas you’ll never forget.

Anna Vere has escaped to the Cotswolds for Christmas to try to heal from her broken engagement and, far worse, her broken dreams. When her reserved room at a bed-and-breakfast is flooded, she takes up the offer of camping out in Willoughby Close, the converted stables of the nearby manor house...and is taken under the wing of sexy local carpenter Colin Heath.

What starts out as merely helping a neighbor in need turns into far more as Colin and Anna share a surprisingly intense and emotional connection, weaving their own Christmas magic as they spend the holiday together. But Anna has a secret she's scared to reveal, something that could destroy the fragile bond they've just created, and Colin knows she’s only in England for a short time. Can these two sudden soul mates risk their hearts for a love that has yet to be tried and tested?

Get swept away by this poignant and heartwarming story, set in beautiful Wychwood-on-Lea, in the English Cotswolds. And look forward to four more books set in Willoughby Close, where everyday miracles and happily-ever-afters are guaranteed.

Cheesy

Couldn’t get past the first few chapters it was just too cheesy and grossly predictable.
When a baby was thrust into main character’s arms (because people always just hand over their babies to be fed and put to bed by a stranger) and she became emotional and weird, I was done.
I like sweet and lightly romantic, but this was eye roll worthy. 🤢
Glad I didn’t waste a credit for this.

A romance between real people, charming setting

This is not an escapist romance, despite the setting. It’s a story about two imperfect people with a lot of baggage, who must decide if it’s worth the risk to be together. I don’t usually read romances, but I enjoyed that this story was more grounded in reality than most. Admittedly, I needed a short book so I could finish my 2022 Goodreads challenge. This fit the bill and I truly enjoyed it.

Nice light story.

The storyline was a little shallow, but lighthearted and a great quick listen. The way the narrator granted at the end of every sentence made it very hard to listen to.

Heartwarming Story

I loved the story but not the male character’s voice . It didn’t sound like it fit the character at all !!

boring

I really wanted to like this, was so excited when I found it. unfortunately, despite the beautiful setting, it was dull and overly ambitious - tried to tackle some serious subjects in a banal fashion (so not the right platform).
and to top it off, the narration was bland at best.
don't be fooled by the promising start, it just goes gradually downhill before completely bucketing out at the end

cute short story

I always enjoy stories set in English villages. This one was short and sweet, Insta love, some angst and a happy ending! New author for me and a new narrator. Both enjoyable for an afternoon listen.

Quick Romantic Read

Kate is running away from her broken heart for the holidays. When she ends up in the Cotswold things turn bad to worst. Native to the village, Collin takes her in and they fall in love but aren’t sure about the future since they live on different parts of the pond. Quick little romantic read. Felt the ending was a bit rushed.

Horrible American Accent

I don’t know any American who sounds like that. Truly strange. Story was ok — shirt and light .

Everything I love!

This book has everything I love in a Christmas story! Narrator Justine Eyre brings all the heart and emotion to this wonderful book. Hard-working builder, Colin, ends up with weary American traveler Anna staying in his home in a cozy cottage in Cotswold via a series of unfortunate events. Of course, they fall in love!
