About this listen
A Closed and Common Orbit: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!
Lovelace was once merely a ship's artificial intelligence. When she wakes up in an new body, following a total system shutdown and reboot, she has to start over in a synthetic body, in a world where her kind are illegal. She's never felt so alone.
But she's not alone, not really. Pepper, one of the engineers who risked life and limb to reinstall Lovelace, is determined to help her adjust to her new world. Because Pepper knows a thing or two about starting over.
Together, Pepper and Lovey will discover that, huge as the galaxy may be, it's anything but empty.
Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Background sound distracting
Usually love audio productions, but this one was distracting to me and I may like the book better in print. Love Becky Chambers. Book is better than most but not as fun as the first.

The best of a very good series
Each of the books in this series is filled with thought, kindness, introspection, and empathy. That’s a rare enough thing. But this one also features a very affirming and well earned emotional payoff that makes it feel, like so many places in the book, like the reader has come home.

A beautiful and deeply felt story full of joy, sadness and imagination
In “The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet”, I felt as if the author might’ve still been finding her feet, but I couldn’t get enough of the rich setting she was weaving.
With this story, though, she elevated that setting to its full potential, telling a rich and interwoven narrative that builds up two unique and excellent protagonists and sets them up as mirrors for each other.
The plot - like a few of its key characters - is much more than the sum of its parts, and the ending does not disappoint.
I can’t recommend this enough: it’s one of the best science-fiction books I’ve read in years, and I’m hoping there’s a lot more by this author (and the wonderful narrator) on Audible, because if so, I am about to spend a bunch of credits grabbing them all.

another great hit!
while some of the characters were present in the first book, most of these characters are new. the depth and clarity given each are true delights. the world/universe is the same as the first book, but here we are shown an entirely diffent aspect, again truly imaginitive, yet actually using real science as a framework to create upon.
you do not need to read them in order, so dont let that slow you down, but i heartily reccommend the audio version over the written. thus is one of a new genre where productuon quality actually enhances the story... the sound effects, background music and voiced characters lend much to the story.
another point, this is listed as YA fiction, but the author is not afraid to cover difficult or dark topics (slavery, racism, speciesism, gender and orientation, to name a few) as a parent, i would not hesitate to let my child hear or read this, but i would expect some explanations might be needed for the younger set. as an adult, i thought an excellent read and seriously thought provoking. im afraid many adults are frightened off by the YA label, and they need not be in this case.
in short, Yes! read it now!

Enjoyable story but some problems w/ the booktrack
I really enjoyed the story, but ran into some frustrating parts when it came to this audible version. Overall the narrator did a really good job, despite some small mistakes and one grating one. She mispronounced the xe pronouns in this book for some reason, despite pronouncing it correctly throughout the first book. This really, really bothered me for some reason.
I'm not sure how the music and background noises are chosen for these books, and I'm really on the fence about them. Most of the time it's not too noticeable and just adds ambience. Some times, though, it's a little loud and distracting and doesn't quite fit the mood of the moment. The worst was when the characters were in an incredibly, unbelievably quiet public place--a place for a species that doesn't communicate with words--and for some reason there were crowd noises as if they were in a busy marketplace or something. The word quiet was mentioned soo many times in that scene, I truly do not understand how they made that mistake. It really took away from the moment.
Despite those problems, I would still recommend this book. I jreally wish we could adjust the volume of the background track or something, though.

What a wonderful journey.
This s is one of the best sci-fi books I've read in a very long time and I'm sure will become one of the classics. There are interesting politics around race and gender, seen through the veil of interspecies interactions. The series would be a great way to discuss some of these things with some younger readers.

AI have feelings too
I am going to have to listen to this one again, because I am a bit fuzzy on the plot. However, next time I lose my cell phone or leave my laptop, thanks to this tale I am going to have to worry about how they feel about it.

Absolutely Wonderful
while I do miss the adventures of the wayfarer, (the previous book) this title is just as good at presenting science fiction as personal and pleasant.
