Publisher's summary

An FBI agent hunting a serial killer has to up his game when a trail of murders is not what it seems in a riveting thriller by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Steven Konkoly.

Five dismembered bodies are found along the roadside, dumped in the middle of nowhere. This isn’t new to Special Agent Garrett Mann. Head of ARTEMIS, a specialized FBI task force hell-bent on hunting down cartel-related killings in the Southwest, Mann has seen this before.

He and his team have been tracking similar kills along thousands of miles of rural roads running north, south, and back again. When the latest slaughter yields a key piece of evidence, Mann thinks he’s found the killer and solved the case. That’s when the nightmare begins.

From a lakeside Minnesota mansion to an abandoned CIA black site in New Mexico, the hunt is on. But the closer Mann gets to his prey, the deadlier the stakes become. This is no ordinary serial killer. He’s not working alone—and the stakes go far beyond just preventing the serial killer’s next massacre. What Mann unravels is a powerful and far-reaching conspiracy beyond his wildest imagination.

The author never disappoints

I’ve read all of Stephen Konkolys books and will continue to do so. This with all the mystery and action and conspiracy elements I’ve come to expect. On first read, I think the serial killer investigation element of the story is probably the area of weakness. I want to know more about the conspiracy being uncovered in the murder spree that started these investigations is mostly an afterthought. The angle is original and helps it avoid the tropes of past series, and I hope future installments will help flesh out more convincingly why the killer is so central to the larger events.

Very good but a little detail is missing

The book was good, I enjoyed it throughout but it was missing so detail that could have made it better. It was half a spy book and half a police report. I enjoyed it but wish it was more spy.

Kill

Love the story line however the author took to end of cliff only to leave me hanging. I didn’t understand what the cartel used the facilities for. I want to know the last survivor disclosed. Who was the 3rd assassin’s target. What in the CIA was the kingpin?

Unexpected pleasure to read

I underestimated how engaging this book would be. A friend recommended it saying it was okay, they were wrong! Great plot, well read. Can’t wait for the next book - this can be read as a standalone.

Unusually good

Back in the day, Librarians and book sellers greeted customers ," the new Clancy just came in." It was a great day when patrons heard those words! All over town lights burned into the
wee hours.
With Clean Kill.I just enjoyed the tfrill again.
It is not.rasy to write first class thrillers- a winning. I listened to the sample, stopped the mystery I was almost lhru and bought my clean Kill.
Cartel horrow book, political
hair raiser absolutely
too real - stripped from
this years headlines to
kick in your door at 3 am.
Try this one....an outstanding writer with
a star power narrator....
outstanding! Not blood and guts, you can read this one and start wondering " what the heck are we gonna do?"

Book 1 is a winner

Nice character development, caught attention quickly, good balance of action.
Good story, nice narrator if you’re listening to the book. Liked it enough to listen to the book 2 when it’s released.

Hours of Nothing

I had to give up about half way through. This is a never ending mis-mash of characters and boring "action". Just not worth the effort or time needed to slog through it.

In essentially gory.

A lot of useless info. So much I couldn’t get to the story. I’ve read some of his other books and liked them. I hated this one
