Publisher's summary

Alternate history master Eric Flint returns to top form with an epic addition to the multiple New York Times best-selling Ring of Fire series.

A cosmic accident sets the modern town of Grantville, West Virginia, down in war-torn 17th-century Europe, and a new nation is forged. Now after carving a place for itself among the struggling powers of Western Europe, Grantville must throw up its eastern bulwarks against Dark Age domination. But the challenge for the down-time Eastern European horde is just as great: how to crawl out of a deeper feudal shadow than any in the West - and step into the light of freedom.

Finally back to the main story!

Finally. Finally! FINALLY!!! Back to the main characters and story. After all those prattling stories that could have been told in a single chapter in other books (except for the Italian set stories) we follow up on the Baltic War, formation of the USE and the rest. Back to Mike Sterns, Gustav Adolf and the rest. The only problem is that they are too lacking in military detail. What are the specs on the new airplanes and ships being built? Why is it taking the USE so long to mass produce breech loading rifled guns since the French beat them to it? But overall this and the next one are the best ones in the series in a long time!!! Enjoy!!!!

Great story, in a great series.

A great story for history buffs. Narrator is boring, and not good at voicing distinct different characters.

EXCELLENT!

If you could sum up 1635: The Eastern Front in three words, what would they be?

A ¼-way into the book, I was almost sure I'd wasted a credit; but I'm sure happy I stayed with it. This book is a point of inflection for the series, and really want to hear what happens next! The stage changes so much that I found myself wondering, " How did I get here? Did I miss something?" Upon reviewing the story-line I realized that I missed a lot!.Be warned, if you need a book that wraps everything up with a tight ending....this ain't it! But the author does an excellent of setting up a logical new path forward.

Wish I never started this series

I love the idea of traveling back in time to make an alternate time line. By the fifth book in I realized it’s a huge waste of time. Let’s just say alternative time lines are fun but I wish when comparisons to real time lines weee made. They were more accurate and less political. Sucks I read fiction to get away from politics.

ugh the story continues, not in a good way

If you're hoping for anything exciting out of this addition to the story, you'll be disappointed. The ending in particular will knee cap the series for you.

Once again, George Guidall is fantastic.

Really? Just end on a cliffhanger.

Writing is actually decent for a change. But ending like that is something that you can't do.
