本書は大きく2部構成となっています。
<第1部>は、1日目から100日目まで毎日どんなものを選んだのか、またどのように感じて過ごしていたかの記録です。
<第2部>では、100日間を通して気づいた100個のことについてまとめました。
日常で当たり前のように思っていたことがくつがえされる場面もあれば、
なぜこのことに気づかずに生きていたんだろうと思うこともあり、
生まれて初めて「暮らす」ってどんなことなのか本気で考えました。
それは、ただ生き延びるということとは違うものでした。
例えば……
•冷蔵庫ってタイムマシンだった
•まだ必需品がそろっていないのに、9日目に本がほしくなった
•意外に要らなかったものは、炊飯器や財布
•洗濯機で最も重要な機能は、「汚れの洗浄」よりも「脱水」だと思った
•何もない部屋で過ごすと1時間が4時間くらいに感じる
きっかけは、映画『100日間のシンプルライフ』についてのコメント依頼をいただいたことです。
チャレンジを始めたのは2020年の夏の終わり。
新型コロナの影響で仕事はほとんどリモートに切り替わり、大好きな旅行も簡単にはできなくなっていました。
閉塞感を感じることも多い日々。
刺激を求めて外に出ていけない代わりに、関心事の矢印を家の中や自分の内面に向かわせるのもいいなと考えました。
結果的に、その直感は正しかったと思っています。
100日間のシンプルライフのチャレンジは、まさに内なる冒険といえる体験だったのです。
なかなか気軽に「ぜひ皆さんもやってみて下さい!」と言えるチャレンジではありません。
そしてこの本は、片付けの極意を伝授する本でも、ミニマリストになることを勧める本でもありませんが、
暮らしを再発見していく感覚を一緒に味わってもらえたら嬉しいです。
