About this listen

Kelly Bouldin Darmofal suffered a severe TBI in 1992; currently, she holds a Masters in Special Education from Salem College, NC. Her memoir, Lost in My Mind: Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), tells her story of tragedy and triumph. Kelly will be teaching "TBI: An Overview for Educators" at Salem College. Kelly's "tips" were learned during two decades of recovery and perseverance; they include:

  • Ways to avoid isolation and culture shock post-TBI
  • Tips for staying organized in the face of instant chaos
  • Strategies for caretakers and teachers of TBI survivors
  • Life philosophies that reject despair
  • How to relearn that shoes must match
  • Why one alarm clock is never enough, and
  • A breath of humor for a growing population with a "silent illness" - TBI

"Those who suffer from TBI should benefit from Kelly Darmofal's advice. She speaks often of the value of a sense of humor in dealing with TBI symptoms and quotes Viktor Frankl who believed that humor was one of the '...soul's weapons in the fight for self preservation.' I strongly recommend her work." (Dr. George E. Naff, NCC, LPC, Diplomate in Logotherapy)

"Kelly is a wonderful resource about TBI for survivors, caregivers, teachers, and the entire community. The wisdom gained from her own experience makes her believable; the frankness and sense of humor that she reveals as she writes makes her authentic.... Kelly and her publications have become a trusted resource for our clients who are surviving from a TBI." (Barbara Saulpaugh, regional executive director, CareNet Counseling, an affiliate of Wake Forest Baptist Health)

Impacful & enlightening

I cannot express in words how much I appreciate his knowledge, I have been struggling with empathy & have beaten myself up about it, and realized that it was because I was not educated on this topic well enough, this book has helped me so much. I am truly grateful. Thank you.

Easy overview and vocabulary of TBI.

I could have done without the religious parts since I was looking for a scientific overview of TBI, not someone's theology, or is that one of the side effects of TBI? It did not mention that part.

You’ll learn way more if you just Google TBi

This is a terrible book. If you can call it that. This information is irrelevant. You can find better info if you just search online. How someone can call this a book. I have such a hard time with e books and a woman’s narration. If you actually have a TBi this will drive you nuts. I’d like a refund.

Ummm slow down

This reader talks too damn fast I can’t keep up its a rambling confusion that makes a bunch of noise thumbs down fyi I have a severe TBI I’ve been dealing w/my new life since April 2022 today is May 23. ONe major thing that drives me nuts is a fast talker. Perhaps there’s good tips in this audible book… maybe it’s just the reader cause I’ll be trading this book in real fast
