「塩狩峠」は、昭和41年から43年にかけて日本基督教団出版局の雑誌『信徒の友』に連載され、のちに新潮社から発刊された、三浦綾子の代表作ともいえる小説です。
明治の世でキリスト教嫌いの祖母に育てられた永野信夫は、やがて北海道で鉄道職員をしながら教会に通うようになります。聖書の研究を通じて、彼の同僚や愛する人への向き合い方は変わっていきます。
命をかけて多数の人命を守った永野信夫。当時のキリスト教の見方を変えた実話をもとにした物語を朗読で味わいます。
三浦綾子（みうら・あやこ）
1922年4月、北海道旭川市生まれ。高等女学校卒業後、17歳から7年間小学校教師を勤めるが、太平洋戦争後、罪悪感と絶望を抱いて退職。その後、肺結核と脊椎カリエスを併発して13年間療養生活を送る。闘病中にキリスト教に出逢い、1952年に洗礼を受ける。1959年、三浦光世と結婚。1964年、朝日新聞の1000万円懸賞小説に『氷点』で入選し作家活動に入る。その後も『塩狩峠』『道ありき』『泥流地帯』『母』『銃口』など数多く小説、エッセイ等を発表した。1998年、旭川市に三浦綾子記念文学館が開館。1999年10月、逝去。©2022 （公財）三浦綾子記念文化財団
