Although he's fighting in a war he never asked to join, Len suffers a severe head wound. No one thinks he'll survive, but he does, and he returns home to his loving wife, Luanna. Once back home, he learns to talk, walk, be self-sufficient, and even graduates from college. But nightmares of the war still haunt Len. Years later, seeking closure, he visits the Vietnam War Memorial to pay tribute to his brothers who died. But for some reason, none of their names are listed. Now, Len must find out if the fate of his comrades is how he remembers, or if something else happened altogether.

Keith grew up one of 13 children in the shadow of the Great Depression and the Second World War. After seeing his father come home wounded from war, Keith joined the army. He was sent to fight in Korea at just 18 years old, the bloody beginning to decades of military service across the world. Keith's life was defined by one night in 1969. In the dark jungle of Vietnam, under heavy enemy fire, Keith returned to a fled battlefield to rescue 40 of his soldiers. For his extreme act of bravery in leading his men to safety, Keith became the last Australian to earn the VC for 40 years.

Col. "Bo" Bottomly is assigned as task force commander of the Dragon One Combat Task Force. Their assignment is to combat-test the A-37. But when several F-4 planes are shot down by a North Vietnamese barge battery over the Mekong River, Col. "Bo" and his wingman, Zach Butler, are needed to take out the "gattler" before it can cause any more damage. The men have the "gattler" in their sites, but the North Vietnamese have the drop on them as well, shooting down their plane and leaving them for dead.

A torrent of books about the Vietnam War has flooded the market, most of them documenting battles, strategy, and personal journals of life during the war. There are far fewer books about soldiers who have returned to that country of conflict four decades later. Most men and women who served during the Vietnam War were only too glad to leave and never look back. I was one of those people until last year when an unexpected phone call had me considering something I never thought I would do...return to Vietnam.
