The Gentleman Dressed in Newspaper is a short story written by Agatha Christie which was first published in The Sketch in October 1924. During a lull in business, Tommy and Tuppence amuse themselves by perusing the paper's personal columns. One cryptic ad reads, "Three hearts … 12 tricks … Ace of Spades … finesse the King." Tommy is certain it is a secret message indicating a crime about to be committed.

Bodies washing up along the eastern coast of New England and the mysterious grounding of a “ghost ship” near Manhattan combine to bring Sherlock Holmes out of retirement to resume his pursuit of the villainous Baron Antonio Barlucci--the Whitechapel Vampire. When the papal apartments are burgled in 1901, Sherlock Holmes is summoned to Rome by Pope Leo XII. After learning from the pontiff that several priceless cameos that could prove compromising to the church, and perhaps determine the future of the newly unified Italy, have been stolen, Holmes is asked to recover them. In Agatha Christie’s short story “The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb”, the widow of a famous Egyptologist consults Poirot on the suspicious death of her husband and an American financier, Bleibner. The mystery takes Poirot and Hastings to Egypt to investigate the site of an archaeological dig. But who could want the two men dead?

No one liked Jake Kinsey. A rich man, he turned up out of nowhere, acquired Exmouth’s trophy penthouse flat, and then bought his way into the local rowing club. And now he’s dead. In Catherine Aird’s Stiff News, a letter received by an old woman’s son after her death alerts Detective Inspector C. D. Sloan that one woman’s death by natural causes in a local nursing home may actually be murder. But that is just the beginning of the odd goings-on in this nursing home catering to former members of a WWII regiment.

Mrs Laetitia Rodd is the impoverished widow of an Archdeacon: she is also a private detective of the utmost discretion. In winter 1850, she is asked by Sir James Calderstone to investigate the background of an 'unsuitable' woman his son intends to marry. In the guise of governess, she travels to the family seat, Wishtide, where she discovers that the Calderstones have more to hide than most. As their secrets unfold, the case takes an unpleasant turn when a man is found dead outside a tavern.

Tourists found it hard to imagine a quainter, more lovable spot than Deepwood Village; but the villagers were not quite as lovable as their surroundings. Deepwood House, too, was chiefly known as the home of three wicked and rich Stirlings. So one summer, Deepwood attracted some rather strange visitors, as well as the tourists. Like the eccentric new gardener, who let the flowers scorch and talked to people nobody else could see.

Mr. Channing is devoted to his garden, but it is his youngest daughter Christine who is truly the apple of his eye. When Christine’s fiancé breaks off his engagement to her at the request of his grandfather, Mr. Channing is persuaded by his wife and other daughters to take Christine to Portugal for a holiday. They are charmed by the country where they soon make many friends. Among them, the Baronesa Narvão who invites them to stay in her luxurious mansion. But the Baronesa is not all she appears to be.

Set in late January and early February of 1891, during the time that Professor Moriarty declares in The Final Problem that Holmes had "incommoded" his plans, Holmes and Watson are visited by two charwomen and retained to clear the name of a drunkard lighthouse keeper who has been arrested and charged with the murder of a German man in Tynemouth, England.
