"Der Idiot" gehört zu den bekanntesten Romanen Fjodor Dostojewskis. Er wurde von dem Autor in Genf 1867 begonnen, in Mailand 1868 beendet und erschien erstmals von Januar 1868 bis Februar 1869 in einer Zeitschrift. Die Geschichte des Fürsten Myschkin, der für ungefähr ein halbes Jahr sein Schweizer Refugium verlässt und in die Petersburger Gesellschaft (und in was für eine!) gerät, zählt zu den ganz großen Werken der Weltliteratur.

Konstantin Paustovsky was a Russian writer nominated for the Nobel Prize for literature in 1965, 1966,1967,1968. Paustovsky began writing while still in Gymnasium. His first works were imitative poetry but he restricted his writing to prose after Ivan Bunin wrote in a letter to him: "I think that your sphere, your real poetry, is prose.
