Social Science Evil

Desde hace varios lustros Veracruz dejó de ser una tierra festiva para convertirse en un estado del país con los males sociales más demoledores: huachicoleo, secuestro, narcofosas, levantones capiteneados por policías y sicarios, complicidad de políticos y asesinos, desapariciones forzadas... en estas páginas se ofrece un recuento de los daños que es, al mismo tiempo, una denuncia, un relato de la pesadilla política y social que hoy padece Veracruz... y todo México.

International attention has been drawn over the past few months to the activities of ISIS, the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria. The entire world has been taken by surprise as they have witnessed the flagrant violation of all forms of human decency by these militants without their even considering the smallest fragment of human nature. It was only with impotent fury and despair that people across the globe could watch the brutal beheadings of innocent human beings by these radical Islamists.

This book raises ethical questions that might become part of mainstream consciousness in years to come and points out the role of communication and language in helping create (or avoid) a potentially dystopian future.

The use of the term "evil" has become controversial. Many are reluctant to apply it at all - even to Adolph Hitler (psychological adjustment problems, you see). And while it is true that the word has been recurrently misused, if we abandon the idea that it is possible to commit a knowingly evil act, we must abandon our belief in free will. Consider the case of "Psycho-Cabbie"....
