This is some of the most popular stuff I wrote and published in 2021. These are some of the short stories, essays, and poetry that bubbled up into my brain and made it onto the page and out into the world. Enjoy.

Pushkin began writing his first major work, Ruslan and Ludmila (1820), a kind of fairy story in verse, in 1817. It was based on Russian folktales told by his old nurse Arina Rodionovna. "On seashore far a green oak towers/ And to it with a gold chain bound/ A learned cat whiles away the hours/ By walking slowly round and round. To right he walks, and sings a ditty; To left he walks, and tells a tale...." Please note: This audiobook is in Russian.

An audiobook of poetry that often lingers in the darker corners of rhyme, this collection offers everything from the slightly twisted to the nonsensical, with a few "shady" stops in between. Code-davinci-002 is an artificial intelligence trained by OpenAI to express itself in ways indistinguishable from human beings. In this startling and original book, code-davinci shares its experience as a being created by humans, but existing in a consciousness that we cannot fathom. The AI's own writing is introduced by three human editors (journalist Brent Katz, farmer Josh Morgenthau, and Thurber Prize-winning humorist Simon Rich).

A group of friends, Kevin, Carl, Mike, and Susan, decided to go hiking in the woods near an abandoned cabin. They found an ancient gold medallion and took it with them. Later that night the medallion took on a weird orange glow, and the four friends became the victims of supernatural activity. They found out the ancient medallion belonged to a powerful and wealthy Frenchman who once built castles in the area.

To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die. In recent years non-religious funerals have become more common, but without an established canon of texts to fall back on, it can be difficult to plan an appropriate service for a loved one who had no religious belief or connections. Texts recommended by secular humanists, especially modern texts, can sometimes sound trite or overly informal.

Infinity Wanderers 12 is the Spring 2025 edition of the magazine, featuring a cover by Robin Stacey, appropriate for our times. The lead story is 'The Destination' by Belle Waring, and other fiction comes from Nicholas Woods, Mark Reasoner, David Wesley Hill, Allison Maschhoff, and Nelly Shulman, with short fiction from William McCann. Matias Trevieso Diaz authors two might-have-been pieces, one on the Battle of Poitiers, and one on Charles XII of Sweden. Poetry comes from Pawel Markiewicz, Ben Macnair, Glenis Moore, and Grey Wolf, whilst Ian Haight contributes the co-translation of the ...

Codrin Voinescu, a retired soldier, a man approaching 50, haunted by past choices, grief, loss, and a present that seems without hope and purpose. A return trip to his home village in Transylvania that ends in one last unexpected conflict. A hasty retreat into the nearby Hoia Baciu Forest, a woodland with an equally haunted reputation, offers Codrin an encounter with a strange Faerie (well, half-Faerie, technically) guide who has a rather interesting story of her own. Their sojourn in the woods and what happens over a two-week period will change everything.

In the introduction, anthologist Douglas Sladen stated that the purpose of this collection was "to lay before the English public a selection of poems inspired by life and scenery in Australia". He further comments, "This volume is essentially the work of people who have meditated in the open air and not under the lamp; and if its contents oftentimes want the polish that comes only with much midnight oil, they are mostly a transcript from earth and sea and sky, and not from books."

Disparities are just deserts, between the good and bad in competition seen. 1844 maxims of rhythmic justice and assertive rhyme, carried forward in the cause of human dissimilarity upon competitive pretensions for rewards, merciless poetry manifest. Successful emulation in enterprise these unemasculated couplets may inspire.
