Historia
“Walk – Don’t Run" is a childhood memoir about the author's life as a 10-year-old boy in 1960. It is a historically accurate snapshot of being raised in Joliet, Illinois, which is a populous city near Chicago in the United States’ Midwest. The story revolves around his family life, school life, and friendships. During this time of the child’s life, he had been jolted beyond his childhood as family incidents occurred that changed him. 1960 was an interesting time in the United States and other parts of the world, allowing the content of this book to be educationally integrated with...

Historia
In Woody Allen's 1973 film, Sleeper, a character wakes up in the future to learn that civilization was destroyed when "a man by the name of Albert Shanker got hold of a nuclear warhead." Shanker was condemned by many when he shut down the New York City school system in the bitter strikes of 1967 and 1968, and he was denounced for stirring up animosity between Black parents and Jewish teachers. Later, however, he built alliances with Blacks, and at the time of his death in 1997, such figures as Bill Clinton celebrated Shanker for being an educational reformer.

Historia
In 1933, as Hitler came to power, schoolteacher Anna Essinger hatched a daring and courageous plan: to smuggle her entire school out of Nazi Germany. Anna had read Mein Kampf and knew the terrible danger that Hitler's hate-fuelled ideologies posed to her pupils. She knew that to protect them she had to get her pupils to the safety of England. But the safe haven that Anna struggled to create in a rundown manor house in Kent would test her to the limit.

In the end, Boland isn't hoisted on his students' shoulders and no one passes AP anything.

Historia
What lessons might cancer teach him before it finishes him off? Peter Goldsworthy asks, obliquely. A GP of forty years' practice, as well as one of Australia's most awarded and celebrated writers, Goldsworthy ('Doctor Pete' to his patients) brings his characteristic black humour and storytelling power to the tale of his own cancer journey. Accidentally diagnosed after a scan of his dicky knee, he was thrown into a world that he knew only too well from the other side: a world that soon shrank to hospital visits, sleepless and hyped-up nights on dexamethasone and life-saving chemotherapy.

School was a struggle for John D. Rodrigues. He knew he was smart, but teachers and classmates didn’t believe him. All they saw was a kid who wore freakish orthopedic shoes, couldn’t sit still in class, and struggled miserably with reading. At age 16, John had had enough. He dropped out, certain he’d never return to school. Thanks to a chance encounter, John discovered ice sculpting. Here, finally, was something the young man was good at, and he took to it passionately. His talent for releasing beauty from massive blocks of ice led to jobs working in famous hotels and on cruise ships.

Historia
Florence Bell Ore tells her life story as she remembers it while growing up on the windswept prairies of Alberta, Canada during the dust bowl and the Great Depression. As the niece of an Anglican missionary to the Siksika Indians on the Blackfoot Reserve, Florence had to bridge three cultures: that of her English heritage, her Indian neighbors, and her Canadian school- mates in the town of Gleichen. A landscape of grass blowing under a dome of sky became the constant reality used by this Canadian child to forge her own identity. This memoir lets her share the journey with you.

Question: What do you do when the kitchen wall collapses into the vat of beans being cooked for a horde of hungry schoolboys? Answer: You serve it up anyway! Why let a few lumps of clay and the odd metal screw spoil a decent meal? When Bunmi Asaolu arrived at the grand gates of St. John/Mary's Unity Secondary School (SAJOMACO) as a first-year student, you'd be forgiven for assuming he was swapping life on the serene university campus he grew up on for another of equal civility. Wrong! Behind the gates of SAJOMACO lay a world of contradictions.

Historia
I grew up on a ranch near Willow Creek, Montana, during the Great Depression. Running through the fields to school with my brothers and sisters was among my most cherished memories along with having attended all 12 grades in that small hamlet. With nine children in the family, we were raised as free as birds, growing up in a world of simplicity. Our farm was our world and nature an educator that gave us free rein for our imaginations. We absorbed the natural order of things and observed the facts of life unfolding daily before our eyes.

Historia
Have you ever wondered what PhD studies looked like? Have you ever had the desire to pursue PhD studies, or do you know any friends, relatives or loved ones who would like to engage in the adventure? Do you want to set your/their expectations straight? Do you want to test and feel the PhD waters without lifting a finger? Then you are in for a treat. PhD studies can be fascinating and fulfilling as much as they are challenging. Most people however can only resort to uninformed guesses as to what a PhD journey really looks like.
