El mito de la caverna (también conocida por el nombre de alegoría de la caverna), se considera la más célebre alegoría de la historia de la filosofía junto con la del carro alado. Su importancia se debe tanto a la utilidad de la narración para explicar los aspectos más importantes del pensamiento platónico como a la riqueza de sus sugerencias filosóficas. Se trata de una explicación metafórica, realizada por el filósofo griego Platón al principio del VII libro de la República, sobre la situación en que se encuentra el ser humano respecto del conocimiento.

Written in Greek by the only Roman emperor who was also a philosopher, without any intention of publication, the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius offer a remarkable series of challenging spiritual reflections and exercises developed as the emperor struggled to understand himself and make sense of the universe. Gaius Musonius Rufus was a Roman Stoic philosopher of the first century AD. He has been referred to as the Roman Socrates and is also remembered for being the teacher of Epictetus.
