Animal Farm tells the story of Farmer Jones’s animals, led by Napoleon the pig, who rise up in rebellion and take over the farm. "La fattoria degli animali" voleva essere, nelle intenzioni dell'autore, una realistica allegoria della Russia Sovietica, dominata da Stalin. La cacciata dell'uomo avrebbe dovuto portare tra gli animali della fattoria liberata alla realizzazione di quei valori di egualitarismo, fratellanza e libertà che sono il manifesto ideologico dell'illuminismo e da cui hanno tratto la loro origine marxismo, socialismo, comunismo. Nel libro viene ben rappresentato come nella realtà la salita al potere da parte dei nuovi suonatori non determinerà affatto il cambiamento della musica, tutt'altro.

La satira classica della rivoluzione russa di George Orwell è una parte intima della nostra cultura contemporanea, citata così spesso che tendiamo a dimenticare chi ha scritto le parole originali.
