Native Ancient

The poem relates the experiences of a sailor who has returned from a long sea voyage. The mariner stops a man who is on the way to a wedding ceremony and begins to narrate a story. The wedding guest's reaction turns from bemusement to impatience to fear to fascination as the mariner's story progresses, as can be seen in the language style: Coleridge uses narrative techniques such as personification and repetition to create a sense of danger, the supernatural, or serenity, depending on the mood in different parts of the poem.

The indigenous peoples of the Americas have widespread beliefs related to personal guardian spirits. Natives believe that for any success in life there must be protection by a supernatural power. And, in this, they are absolutely correct. The Natives deified guardian spirits since ancient times; and, as it turned out, not in vain because they are directly related to people, to their psyche. All the guardian spirits of the ancient Natives were part of nature.

Many ancient civilizations have influenced and inspired people in the 21st century, and the Greeks and Romans continue to fascinate the West today, but of all the world’s civilizations, none have intrigued people more than the Mayans, whose culture, astronomy, language, and mysterious disappearance all continue to captivate people. In the past decade especially, there has been a renewed focus on the Mayans, whose advanced calendar led many to speculate the world would end on the same date the Mayan calendar ended in 2012.

En el apogeo del imperio inca el pueblo va a tener que trabajar unido para llegar a construir la ciudad sagrada desde la que se gobernará todo el territorio inca. Una joven con ojos como esmeraldas está destinada a ser la hija del sol y así ha sido vaticinado por un sacerdote en la lectura de los astros. Pero para poder cumplir con su destino la joven tendrá que viajar hacia el templo de Inticancha. Sin embargo los dioses parecen querer someter a toda clase de pruebas a Nuba y Airun, los padres de la joven, que se encontrarán con inimaginables peligros a lo largo de su viaje a la ciudad sagrada.

Al comienzo de todo, los viejos nos cuentan, el cosmos estaba callado y quieto. Solo la luna brillaba redonda en la vasta y estrellada oscuridad del cielo. Noche antigua da un nuevo giro a dos tradiciones nahuas: el conejo que la Serpiente Emplumada colocó en la luna, y el Señor Tlacuache que gobernó la Tierra cuando se creó a los humanos, y que robó el fuego de los dioses para darles calor.

In 2012 especially there was a renewed focus on the Mayans, whose advanced calendar led many to speculate the world would end on the same date the Mayan calendar ends. The focus on the doomsday scenario, however, has overshadowed the Mayans' true contributions to astronomy, language, sports, and art.

This is a paper that I wrote very early during my undergraduate work, and I cannot promise that it is very good, but it does give a fair overview of what the Aztecs faced in their final days, at the hands of Cortes and his men. The Aztecs stood up against immeasurable odds, fighting whom they believed, at first, were their gods, finally returned to Earth. When they realized their error, it was too late.
