In June 2013, three upstanding citizens of a small Cape Breton town cold-bloodedly murdered their neighbor, Phillip Boudreau, at sea. While out checking their lobster traps, two Landry cousins and skipper Dwayne Samson saw Boudreau in his boat, the Midnight Slider, about to vandalize their lobster traps. Like so many times before, Boudreau was about to cost them thousands of dollars out of their seasonal livelihood. One man took out a rifle and fired four shots at Boudreau and his boat. To finish the job, they rammed their own larger boat over the top of his speedboat.

In its two centuries of existence, America has seen more than its fair share of momentous events. Through it all, the American Navy has not only been a witness but an active and key participant to the creation and progress of the country. It has grown and strengthened its capabilities - from having zero ships and zero expertise to becoming one of the largest fleets in the world.

Code Name Caribbean is about counter maritime-terrorism, a highly specialized form of counter-terrorism and the most difficult one of all. When a commercial vessel is taken over, hijacked by terrorists, you have a much more serious problem than with an aircraft standing on the apron. Aircrafts are actually quite easy to take back and is seen as “bread and butter” work for Special Forces. Grandiose Leinwandauftritte von Schauspielern wie Johnny Depp oder Errol Flynn nähren unser Bild vom lebenslustigen Piraten. Trinkfest, rauhbeinig und bei Damen äußerst charmant. Doch war die große Ära des Piratentums wirklich so romantisch?

It was a frigid night in February 2013 when the five young fishermen vanished. The crew of the Miss Ally - a 12-metre Cape Islander from Woods Harbour, Nova Scotia - was fishing for halibut far off the Nova Scotia coast when their boat’s spotlight malfunctioned. A recognized expert on the Scottish whaling industry, Malcolm Archibald has authored a number of books on the subject, including Whalehunters (Mercat Press, 2004), Ancestors in the Arctic (Black and White, 2013), and The Dundee Whaling Fleet (Dundee University Press, 2013).
