Columbine and Virginia Tech were not good omens. The victims there were unarmed sheep, who hid beneath desks and chairs, simply cowering as they died. They said "Baa" as they were being slaughtered. Something basic to our society has to change. It's time to stand and fight while we still can. And if our politicians tell us we can't protect our children in a daycare center, a post office, or a church, then we show them the door. We vote them out. We recall them. We take out the trash!

Egalitarianism is stronger than ever with quotas for female executives, gender-neutral toilets, and courses against prejudice. A teasing joke can suffice to be labelled a racist, sexist, or fascist. In April 2004, an illegally leaked U.S. Army report thrust CACI, an information technology company, into the international spotlight by casting suspicion on a CACI employee for being "either directly or indirectly responsible" for the mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. At the same time, pictures from the abuses were shown on national television and tarnished anyone associated with Abu Ghraib - including CACI. Habiburahman was born in 1979 and raised in a small village in western Burma. When he was 3 years old, the country's military leader declared that his people, the Rohingya, were not one of the 135 recognized ethnic groups that formed the eight national races. He was left stateless in his own country. Since 1982, millions of Rohingya have had to flee their homes as a result of extreme prejudice and persecution. In 2016 and 2017, the government intensified the process of ethnic cleansing, and over 600,000 Rohingya people were forced to cross the border into Bangladesh.

During my Scholarly Writing course in law school over the summer (2021), I was "free-writing" on this topic to see if this would be my topic for my paper—instead, I had a conversation with myself, and this is the end result!

A lot of people are not happy with politics. In many family gatherings, politics (and religion) are often frowned upon during conversation, and is usually the cause of much heated debate, incensed arguments, and possible disfellowshiping. But even if the topic of politics is taboo, we all agree that it's an important part of our every day lives. Everything we do, everything we buy, everything we wish to avoid has to do with politics.
