First published in 1910, this short tale continues the story of the Fernald family that began with the 1908 short novel On Christmas Day in the Morning.

Originally published in the 1850 Christmas edition of Dickens' journal Household Words, "A Christmas Tree" is considered to be one of Dickens' more autobiographical pieces. Sie wartet bis die Kinder eingeschlafen sind und geht dann los. Nachdem sie die Tiere aus den Fallen geholt hat, bildet sich eine dicke Nebelwand über dem Schnee. Sie rutscht und fällt. Auch die Skier entgleiten ihr. So bleibt sie in der Nacht dort liegen.
