Great Depression Biography

Some Americans who were born and raised during the Great Depression, have passed from this life although many still remain with us. Many famous books, movies and television shows have covered stories from that generation and many of them continue to fascinate the current generations living today. Stories of getting by in the face of adversities during The Great Depression and of the bond between family and friends are inspiring and they often demonstrate the triumph of the human spirit and the power of human love.

Christmas is eagerly awaited by Lulu, a young girl living in a small Wisconsin town during the Great Depression. Anticipation is transformed into anxiety when Daddy loses his job, doubts about Santa flicker, and that Shirley Temple doll seems further away than ever. Mama reveals her own brutal Christmas as an orphan, adding new worries. But it's Lulu's deep faith and vibrant hope that keeps her looking forward to each new day and the glorious gift of Christmas.

At 95 years old, Marjorie "Madge" Ellen Street finally gets to writing down and telling her life story. At the end of the story, she has a few "featurette" short stories, as well as an interview with her grandson Ryan, with some deep questions about the lessons of her life, a short story about her second husband Peter Street, written by his son Mike Street, birth to 44 and a half, July 1963. Finally, a bonus short story, to Peter’s life story, age 44 and a half to 73, as told by Madge Street.

Stan Paregien began collecting family history and photos in about 1970. He and his wife, Peggy, became frequent visitors to county court houses, history centers, and cemeteries in Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Then, as he acquired home computers and better access to internet resources, he spent countless hours of the day and night doing genealogical research far and wide. He published his work in 1974.
