جون لوك فيلسوف وطبيب بريطاني. يعد واحدًا من المفكرين الأكثر تأثيرًا في عصر التنوير، حيث يعتبر مصدر المعرفة والأفكار ليس العقل، وإنما التجربة التي نحتك بها ونكتسبها عن طريق الحواس، وهو صاحب القول المشهور «العقل صفحة بيضاء» وأراد من خلاله الاعتراض على العقلانيين القائلين بتوفر العقل على أفكار فطرية، مبيناً أن العقل لا يتوفر على شيء، وأن مصدر أفكاره ومبادئه وقواعده التجربة فقط، وبذلك أسس للفلسفة الحسية التجريبية.

ولد في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر، وقد أسره الأدب منذ طفولته المبكرة، ورث مهارة والدته الأدبية، وكتب أول أشعار له في سن الرابعة عشرة، لكن لم تبدأ موهبته الأدبية في الازدهار حتى السابعة عشر من عمره في هارفارد حيث بدأ بدراسته الجامعية، وقد حقق انطباعا جيداً من مساهمته الدائمة في المجلة الطلابية الجامعية محامي هارفارد.

وضع الحداد كثيراً من الروايات التمثيلية والقصصية، فوقعت رواياته موقع الاعجاب من جميع قرائها وسامعيها لما اشتهرت به من حسن الجدل وسلامة انتقاء المواضع وبلاغة الانشاء ورشاقة الشعر، حتى أصبح يتغنى بشعره المنشدون ويتناشده الناس لما امتاز به من الطلاوة والسهولة والابداع، وانتشر شعره في الأقطار العربية انتشاراً لم يسبق لسواه من مشاهير الكتاب.

على خطى والده الشيخ ناصيف اليازجي، عشق ابراهيم كتابة الشعر منذ صباه وقد لازمه هذا العشق حتى ريعان شبابه... ويقال إن إبراهيم، قد تتلمذ على يدي والده، الذي أخذ عنه العلم وسعة الأدب والثقافة والتفقه في اللغة، فضلا على حفظه للقرآن الكريم، باعتبار أن والده، الشيخ ناصيف، كان من حفظة كتاب الله العزيز، مما مكنه من الغوص في بحر اللغة واكتساب فصاحة لم تكن عند أحد غيره من أدباء عصره، رغم أنه كان مسيحيا.
