Edith Sanderlin was born in 1841, in a small town located on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Her delightful character sketches were discovered in a dusty attic many decades after her death, and published in two volumes: "Customs and Superstitions of the Southern Negro," in 2012; and this collection, "Tidewater Tales," in 2014
