Family Poetry

Rosemary O’Brien has been writing since she was 7-years-old, professionally for over 25 years. Begun in a Creative Writing class in senior year of high school, this collection of poetry, or what some would call ‘prose,’ is from years of scratching out her thoughts in her journal and then playing with the words. She writes mostly about nature and feelings and hopes readers will be able to find a few pieces that reach them on a personal level. If you do not find a piece you enjoy at first, read on.

This book is a wake-up call to those impacted by adoption and to those who interact with them. Adoption and Suicidality will speak to anyone with direct experience of adoption and suicide or suicidal ideation, plus anyone who wants to know how to better help adopted people (and others in the adoption constellation) who are struggling.

This collection of pieces that I have written is, in my opinion, some of my best writing thus far in my short endeavor into being an author. They are poems and quotes about relationships that I have had over my lifetime, and though most I will never see or hear from again, they still are and will always be very much alive in my ink and memories. With that being said, there are always those that stand out in my heart, mind, and soul more than all the others and today are a very big part of my life in one way or another.

"Enoch Arden" is a long narrative poem that is built on a theme that has been widely explored in literature and on film. A man is separated from his family due to shipwreck and marooned on an island. After several years of absence from his home, it is assumed that he has died, and his wife remarries and starts a new family. After 10 years, the man finally makes his way home and has to deal with the trauma of discovering his wife and family happily established in a new relationship.

Author Daniel L. Walker has written many poems about difficult times he experienced in his life. His debut poetry novel 2015 Mary Ballard Award Nominee titled: God's Rain talks about his personal demons, his marriage to co-author Teirra Walker, and dealing with rumors that his father allegedly molested a family member. Just as life began to look promising he would face tragedy with the untimely passing of his wife Teirra N. Walker.
