Por medio de la narracion de simples travesuras, el autor dio a su personaje Lazaro, la voz adecuada para retratar los defectos y las miserias de los grupos y clases sociales espanolas de la epoca.

Et c'est bien d'une sauvage dont il s'agit. La cousine est animée d'une rage et d'une passion impuissante. Telle une araignée tissant sa toile, elle gaspille une énergie folle à nuire sans recueillir les fruits de ses intrigues, pourtant patiemment élaborées.

Ces trois nouvelles, "Mademoiselle Fifi", "L'odyssée d'une fille" et "L'armoire", mettent en scène des "filles publiques" - leurs peines, leurs joies, leurs obligations. Maupassant décrit, avec l'ironie qu'on lui connaît, une société du libre-échange dont le moteur est l'argent et où circulent les corps, les pulsions, les désirs. "Three Men on the Bummel" (1900) is a comical travelogue by Jerome K. Jerome. The three companions are on a bicycle tour through the German Black Forest. What does Bummel mean? D. C. Browning writes: "The title must be puzzling to many readers, for 'bummel' will not be found in English dictionaries." You can learn its meaning at the last chapter of the book, which is a series of humorous vignettes, each of which builds slowly, through accumulation of layer on layer of detail, through several pages.
