El cambio que sufren las artes industriales o decorativas durante el siglo XIX es de gran importancia, por cuanto no se trata ya de conseguir obras de calidad artística como hasta entonces, sino de producir obras que encuentren fácil comercio por su bajo precio. Ya no van a servir únicamente para los artistas y artesanos puedan plasmar en ellas su ingenio y valía, sino que se industrializa su producción para satisfacer las necesidades de la pujante burguesía que ahora se desarrolla.
