Needless to say, their versions were biased, and attitudes about the Persians were only exacerbated by Alexander the Great and his biographers, who maintained a fiery hatred toward Xerxes I of Persia due to his burning of Athens.

Britain was encouraged to participate in the second Gulf War by the publication of an intelligence report that suggested that Saddam Hussein could attack the UK with weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes. When the WMDs failed to materialise, the original report was questioned, it was suggested in parliament that it had been "sexed up" as a way to scare the UK into war. His son and successor Cambyses II (529-522 BCE) added Egypt to the Persian Empire. Darius I "the Great" added the Indus Valley to the empire and built the city of Persepolis.
