Während die Polizei weiterhin auf der Suche nach den Kindern und den Drachen ist, besuchen diese gemeinsam mit Herrn Mechtel eine Kinovorstellung und lassen es sich im Wirtshausgarten bei Apfelstrudel und Schlagobers gutgehen. Plötzlich steht ein Feuerwehrmann neben ihnen, der die Kinder mitnehmen will. Als diese sich weigern mitzukommen, ruft der Feuerwehrmann die Polizei.

Auf ihrer Flucht vor der Polizei beschließen die Kinder, die Drachen und der Herr Mechtel, zu den Europameisterschaften im Drachenfliegen zu fliegen. Die Kinder wollen dort gerne mitmachen. Sie kommen gerade noch rechtzeitig, um sich anzumelden. Weil jedoch nur noch eine einzige Startnummer offen ist, müssen die Kinder untereinander auslosen, wer von ihnen beiden mitfliegen darf.

Bei ihrer Suche nach Arbeit landen Georg und Martin im Zirkus Comorani, wo sie sich als Drachen anstellen lassen wollen. Der Zirkusdirektor ist zunächst von Martins Künsten nicht überzeugt und will ihn gerade hinauswerfen, als sich plötzlich der Löwe losreißt.
