Historia oculta de la conquista de América pretende rescatar aquellos hechos que tuvieron relevancia para el desarrollo de la conquista de América y para la posterior configuración tanto de las fronteras sudamericanas como de la propia identidad hispanoamericana. Son hechos olvidados por la distancia temporal entre aquellos hombres y nosotros, o también ninguneados por aquellos que pretendieron acrecentar su fama u ocultar sus delitos, no obstante algunos de ellos, como la incidencia de las enfermedades en colonos e indígenas....

Benjamin Franklin was often curious about the world around him. Utilizing observation and testing of the scientific method, he was able to invent many new items that improved the world for others. These inventions include his famous bifocal glasses, lightning rod, and even a long extension arm.

On November 14, 1889, Nellie Bly, the crusading young female reporter for Joseph Pulitzer’s World newspaper, left New York City by steamship on a quest to break the record for the fastest trip around the world. Also departing from New York that day—and heading in the opposite direction by train—was a young journalist from The Cosmopolitan magazine, Elizabeth Bisland.

Buoyant and determined, and having at last won the support of the king and queen of Spain, Christopher Columbus sailed west from Europe with three ships, confident he would reach the Indies by this new route and find the gold-laden civilization to the great Khan. After four risky expeditions in which he explored the Caribbean and landed on South America, Columbus died without acclaim, never knowing he had reached what would soon be known as the New World.

In 1819, the 240-ton Essex set sail from Nantucket on a routine voyage.
