In The Life of Cicero, Plutarch details the priceless contributions Cicero made to Roman society. He translated the works of Greek philosophers into Latin, gained acclaim as an orator and lawyer, and was elected to office. Politics ultimately got the better of him, however, and his life ended in assassination while in exile. Cicero’s ideas live on through his body of work, but to learn about the man himself, Plutarch’s biography is an excellent starting point.

Jane Austen, George Eliot, and Thomas Hardy-three great masters of the English novel-are three remarkable imagining minds. As readers of their novels, we feel ourselves to be in contact with their authorial minds and conjure the minds they create spread across the pages of their narrative worlds. Politics is the second half of a single treatise by Aristotle (384 B.C.E - 322 B.C.E.), Ethics being the first. Aristotle collected and studied the constitutions of over 150 city states before writing his Politics.

Herbert George "H. G." Wells (1866 - 1946) was an English writer.

He was prolific in many genres, including the novel, history, politics, social commentary, and textbooks and rules for war games. Wells is now best remembered for his science fiction novels and is called a "father of science fiction"

"On Dreams" appears in Aristotle's Parva Naturalia. He examines questions like whether dreams pertain to the faculty of thought or to that of sense-perception. In part two, he considers the circumstances of sleep and the operation of the sense organs operate. In part three he attempts to explain how dreams arise, suggesting that it is the residual movements of the sensory organs that originate them.

Aristotle’s writings cover many subjects, including aesthetics, biology, metaphysics, logic, ethics, poetry, theater, music, rhetoric, linguistics, politics and government. They constitute the first comprehensive system of Western philosophy. "On Sleep and Sleeplessness" attempts to explain the reasons for sleeping. He argues that sleep and wakefulness are both affections of the activity of the primary faculty of sense-perception.

In "On Prophesying by Dreams", Aristotle contemplates the insights that takes place during sleep. He believes that most prophetic dreams are coincidences. He claims that people often mention things during conversation that later come to pass, and argues this is the phenomenon which occurs in dreams.
