Als Blattsee in ihrer Verzweiflung schließlich eine Entscheidung trifft, ahnt sie nicht, dass sie damit das Leben ihres ganzen Clans auf Spiel setzt.

We have been connected to cats for more than 30 million years. To our prehistoricancestors cats were deadly predators of the night, and because of this ancient memory etched onto our DNA, cats epitomize our fear of the dark. Yet in addition to their connection to the dark and the shadows, their intelligence, sophisticated physical abilities, and finely tuned senses also led many cultures to view cats as connected to the spirit world.

"The Boy Who Drew Cats" is a Japanese folk tale collected by Lafcadio Hearn in Japanese Fairy Tales. This is his most anthologized story. It concerns a boy who drew cats everywhere. Everyone in the town thought this was a waste of time until a goblin invaded their temple. They boy, and his cat, then come to the rescue.

He is a figure of terror and mystery, riding through shadows, leading the dead to the halls of judgment. Ominous and cold, even to his fellow gods. Join this strange and soft-voiced god, this being with the wrath of the universe bound in his aching soul, as he drifts closer and closer to the edge of rebellion, as he lingers longer among the souls he is meant only to reap, as he draws closer to the goddess Mercy and learns--to love.

A cat and a mouse, contrary to the custom of their kinds, become friends, such good friends that they decide to share a home. That they might have something to fall back on in time of need, they buy a pot of fat and hide it away in a nook of a church for safekeeping. After a short time, the cat tells her housemate that one of her relations has given birth and that the mouse's friend has been asked to be godmother. Instead of going to a christening, though, the cat goes to the nook of the church and eats the top layer of the fat in the pot.
