Bernhard W Anderson (1916-2007) was emeritus professor of Old Testament Theology at the Princeton Theological Seminary. In The Unfolding Drama of the Bible, he describes the Biblical message as a drama in three acts, bookended by a prologue and an epilogue. John Nelson Darby was an Anglo-Irish Bible teacher associated with the early years of the Plymouth Brethren. In 1867, he produced a literal English version of the New Testament. After his death in 1882, his followers produced an Old Testament based on Darby's French and German translations. The complete Darby Bible was first published in 1890. Darby's purpose was, as he states in the preface to his English NT, to make a modern translation for the unlearned who have neither access to manuscript texts nor training and knowledge of ancient languages of the Scriptures.

The Book of Mark is the second book of the New Testament and narrates the ministry of Jesus from his baptism to his death and resurrection. This account portrays Jesus as hiding his messianic identity more than in the other three Gospels and contains much hidden knowledge for those with spiritual insight.
