Bible Commentary

Historicism is the method of interpretation that actually developed out of the Protestant Reformation, which is the reason why, to quote one critic, the “view was so widely held, that for a long time it was called the Protestant view”. That alone should pique interest to a deeper study of the view.

God has many ways of teaching us. Jesus taught by example. Men looked at how he lived, and decided to walk that way also. He also taught by precept, speaking directly to people, in a way we might call teaching today. But his favorite way of teaching was through the use of the parable.
